I believe the last nine new topics in this wonderful forum were all started by me. The newcomer. Otherwise, there’s nothing happening.

ChatGPT suggests the following reasons:

Demographic effect
The core collectors who intellectually sustained the forum are now 60+. Many of them rarely post anymore. The younger generation collects differently — faster, more visual, more transactional.

Platform shift
Discussions have migrated to Facebook groups, Messenger chats, and Discord servers. Interaction there tends to be less deep, but more frequent.

Market transparency through auction archives
In the past, the forum was a primary source of information. Today, Heritage, eMoviePoster, Worthpoint, etc. provide price data directly. The informational advantage of the forum has diminished.

Commercialization of the market
Many major players no longer discuss matters publicly. Market movements are observed rather than debated.

Collector behavior
More is being bought than analyzed. And when analysis does occur, it often happens one-to-one via email or direct message.

This forum feels about as alive as an old poster. That’s genuinely sad. A pity. It makes me wonder whether my typing here is even worth it.

Or am I overlooking something?

Hi, just recently purchased a lovely old pre-war Belgian poster that isn't linen backed. This is definitely going up on the wall but I'm wondering whether I should get it linen backed? I think it will display better linen backed, and I'm also wary of how the poster will sit in the frame without any adhesive to hold it up (I assume framers use tape or something?).

I really don't want it damaged and would be quite happy getting it linen backed but it's such an old poster that's never been linen backed that I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing?

Once it's framed and on the wall I'll post photos.

Been selling on eBay for a few months now, it was an experiment to run a live syncing between my site and eBay which I had been working with them on, it works quite well and TBH I have enjoyed selling on eBay, business is brisk and there have no issues.

So, took a call from eBay yesterday, basically told that they are removing the 3-7 or 14 day return policy (buyer's remorse sort of thing) and automatically putting it to 30 day and also offering sellers the opportunity to set it to 60days. Apparently it'll enhance your ranking (or whatever it is).

They asked if I would be signing up for it. Would I be offering buyers remorse on a second hand fragile vintage movie poster that a buyer has handled multiple times and after 30 or even 60 days has decided to return it?

I said no.

I blame John.

http://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/SR17-1/Returns-Enhancements

I have been selling on ebay since 1998 and it just amazes me that they continue to have so many ongoing problems.

Here is the latest.

1. A customer sent me a message to ask about purchasing a very expensive poster. The problem is that ebay blocks all replies to him because his userid looks like an email address and they don't like that. Of course, the customer gets upset because he thinks I am ignoring his messages but he doesn't know that his userid is blocked. Why don't they just get people to change their userids?

2. I get regular emails from people who tell me they can't add items to the cart when making multiple purchases. I finally found out that this happens when the items are listed on the Australian site but the customer finds them through another ebay site eg the UK ebay site. They end up paying for each item with postage separately and sellers have to go back and refund the additional postage charges and then try and claim the fees back on postage from ebay (in case you didn't know, ebay takes a cut on each postage charge).

These are just a couple of examples.

That's my OT rant for the day.

At the moment, packages with a declared value of over $1000.00 are supposed to be cleared by customs after payment of taxes and gst but I cant imagine how they would make this work for all online overseas purchases.
