It's officially New Zealand's best medal showing at an Olympics with the total tally at 14, passing the 13 won at 1988 and 2012 respectively.

Watched the Boomers yesterday - they do look like they mean business.

    Ohhhhhhh did you watch this??

This is what I love watching the Olympics. Two Olympic runners stopped mid-race to help each other after falling in the women’s 5,000m qualifying heat.

    Well...that deserves a gold medal.

Great Britain have performed very well these Olympics, nice to see Mo Farah get the double-double.

Australia on the other hand continue to have swimmers that over promise, under deliver and still have the hand deep in the pockets of the tax payer. Exceptionally pleased for those athletes that have made the real sacrifices and come up with some awesome results from the likes of the walkers, the archers, etc and also one Chloe Esposito (how come we never saw coverage of this?)...

And that is that, back to normal.

Brazil has a population of over 200million, I would not have guessed close to that. There were 306 events held across 28 sports. There were 11,544 athletes from 207 nations participating at the 2016 Olympics, 85 countries won medals of some form.

You know I was here lately thinking your logic is flawed.  Just because you have a large population doesn't mean you will be successful at the olymipics.  I say that mainly because of India.  They have 1.2 billion people and only took home 2 medals.  That is one for every 600 million people...  Population is irrelevant.

Although it's not my logic I don't think it is flawed, it's simply like golf, a handicap system to allow everyone to appear to find a level playing field, no one is denying the quality of the people who got medals. Are you saying USA is the best because they finished with the most medals then?

Could always do it on GDP.

Or the annual salaries of the USA Dream Team vs any other countries athlete spend...the 12 members of the U.S. team earned a collective $257 million in salary and endorsements in the past year.

So Texas ended up with 41 medals one medal for every 658k people...

Texas would have ended up 8th overall and 3rd in the gold count.  If you took away Texas' gold medals from the US Texas would have more than the US...

On medals per capita, one medal every 658K would put Texas 11th.

With a population of one the Country of Phelps would have finished first overall on a medal count per capita, however on a gold medal count that country would have finished 17th= in front of Canada and New Zealand. That said I believe tourism in the country is not all that it is made out to be.
