Tougher Looking Poster Image In Australia
As you can see the original U.S. artwork of Public Enemies ( 1941 ) features a silhouette of a conventional looking man holding a handgun. The Australian poster artist decided to make the image of the man a lot tougher looking and upgrade him with holding a machine gun. The Australian distributor BEF used a similar looking image of the Public Enemies design fifteen years later on their daybill of The Narrowing Circle ( 1956 ). Original poster material cannot be located for the U.K. release of The Narrowing Circle to establish if the silhouette of the man holding the handgun image was used there. Curious to know if it was or if the poster artist just used his imagination.
