When I posted about a recent acquisition I remembered that the actor Bruno Lawrence was actually a member of a band called Max Merritt & The Meteors he was a member from 1966–1967. Even tho' they are a kiwi band like most that do well they have been adopted by Australia.
This is the song that most people know them for, it got to #2 in Australia in 1976 (long after Bruno had left).
The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) recognised Merritt's iconic status on 1 July 2008 when he was inducted into their Hall of Fame.
Bruno Lawrence on the other hand as well as being a musician went on the become a well loved NZ actor, he also appeared in the 90s in the satirical Australian TV show Frontline. Before that he formed the (hippy-like) band and theatre troupe Blerta ("Bruno Lawrence's Electric Revelation and Travelling Apparition") they had one hit song, Dance All Around The World (1972).
He would also form the band The Crocodiles which starred the female front singer Jenny Morris (who went on to a solo career and was also was adopted by Australia), The Crocodiles had one big hit called Tears in 1980.
Jenny Morris went on to forge a successful music carer in Australia (winning Best Female Artist '87, '88 and '92), her first major hit was She Got To Be Loved (skip through to start video at 0:36):
