Watched Metropolis (1927) (the restored version) for the first time all the way through two nights ago, can say I did enjoy it which is more than i can say for Birdman (2014), whilst it was extremely well shot/directed, I feel you probably have to be 'in' the industry to enjoy it - the 20 minute rule applied and the kill switch was implemented.
Oh you should definitely see it. If you are a fan of SCI FI it is must...if you don't like these kinds of films (silent, old and long) you will struggle but if you can put in the effort you will see where so much of what they do these days comes from. I saw bits of Blade Runner all through it.
As for Lang's film in general, another brilliant film is M...where my love affair with Lorre started.
If you like german cinema, you have to see the Cabinet of Dr Caligari, looks AMAZING.
Sven-haven't seen the color version-don't think I would-i have 2 different copies of the movie-one being a Christmas release with special features and, you guessed it-a Christmas tree bell ornament!
I've seen colorized movies before, but the last one I tried to watch-They Were Expendable 1943-was done so poorly don't really care for them. I can't imagine watching Winchester '73 or even Mildred Pierce in color.
Ves-if you have time to see it all the way through this holiday, I really think its one of Stewart's better performances. He demonstrates so many different levels of acting well. His post WWII roles of course we're much more serious-this being his first after the war.
I agree James Stewart is awesome, I thought I would list my favourite top 10 James Stewart movies but guess what? Trying to do this is near impossible as he was great in everything he ever did. Attempting to cull a list of about 20 films to 10 I can't manage at presentand I will have to give this matter some more serious thought.
The Counterfeiters (2007) German/Austrian Good wartime movie based on the the memoirs of Adolf Burger. Me: 4/5 She: 3/5
Special Forces (2012) French Excellent movie about a a specialist group of French soldiers who try to extract a French journalist from war torn Afghanistan Me: 4/5 She: 4.5/5
La Femme Nikita (1990) French The original - probably showing its age, but still very good movie about the recruitment of a female to become an assassin. Me: 3/5 She: 3/5
Dealer (2014) French Didn't get passed the first 10 minutes...
Dhoom:3 (2013) Indian The movie is nearly 3 hours long, I had gone for a half decent ride earlier in the day so only managed to stay awake through about half of it. Entertaining in a typical Bollywood style. Stars one of my wife's favourite Bollywood female movie stars Katrina Kaif whose solo dance scene will keep you glued to the screen.... Me: 3/5 (the awake part) She: 3/5
Katrina Kaif's solo dance...
An entertaining dance scene early on by one of the male stars Aamir Khan

Rant over...
...know very little of German cinema, other than Lang fled Nazi Germany & went to France....Riefensthal was a director/producer.

....rambling but Stewart's awesome!
Watched on Netflix last night - thoroughly enjoyable! Thriller and a few surprises along the way.
Also eye candy, Synnøve Macody Lund
I'm about to watch this...it's been a few years.
This is the International 3 Sheet for the film.
