  • Excellent lawrence.  Looking forward to the update!
  • With pictures I hope!
  • I am reasonably confident in being able shortly to list the last five Richardson Studio produced daybill titles, in release order. That is the good news, but the bad news is most certainly that we will never know exactly when they were printed, but I will take an educated guess in approximately stating the time the last daybill was printed. I am sure I will only be within a few months of the time that this would have happened.
  • To help me to be able to finalise my research into the final period the Richardson Studio was producing daybills for Paramount Pictures in Australia, I am looking to find the seven daybills that I haven't been able to locate images of for all the Richardson Paramount daybill posters of their product that were released  in Sydney for the two year period  July I 1960 to June 30 1962. I have sighted 46 out of the 53 titles, which was an achievement I am happy with. The missing seven titles I couldn't find and would love to sight images of are as follows.

    Dondi

    Hong Kong Affair

    Purple Gang The

    Sabu and The Magic Ring

    Strange Intruder

    Triangle On Safari

    Walk Like A Dragon

Obscure titles I know but please have a look through your collections on the off chance you may have some of them and post anything you may have on this thread. I am hoping, but to be honest I don't like my chances, but one never knows.

  • purple gang and hong kong affai definately seen...will check later

I take it back...I am getting Hong Kong Affair confused with Hong Kong.

But here is The Purple Gang

Thanks Ves for The Purple Gang image. I already had a copy of the same image but thankfully yours is a little larger. I had placed it in the too hard basket. It is a pity one cannot read the printers details but I can enlarge yours a lot better and it appears to me by the appearance of the poster artwork and the credit placement on the bottom right and left hand side it is a Richardson designed poster and most likely W.E. Smith printed. Are you able to confirm this information for me and if not what do you think? Thoughts from anyone else ?

Printed by WE Smith Limied on right
'This Poster Produced by Richardson Studio' on left

  •  Beautiful. As I had thought and now confirmed thanks to David. Great teamwork happening here.
  • i'm pretty sure i have a Triangle on Safari - will look at the weekend

The more I check the more it changes.

Updated leaders with five or more.

7  - Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. Gone With The Wind

6 - Two Mules For Sister Sara

5 -  Pinocchio, The Wizard Of Oz, Fantasia

Still ongoing. A lot of titles on four but this could alter.

Found that Duel ( 1971 )  has 7 different daybill printings, so straight into equal number one spot sharing with two classic movies. A surprising result. Also The Guns Of Navarone has a total of 5 .

    AMENDED LIST.

7 -  Pinocchio ( David believes 8 but in dispute ), Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Gone With The Wind, Duel

6 -  Two Mules For Sister Sara

5 -  The Wizard Of Oz, Fantasia, The Guns Of Navarone

Any additional tiles with 5 or more designs of the same film or any disputing of the above list I would love to hear from you. Of interest there is a swag of titles sitting on four only , which well may be 5 or more. If you know of any other daybill film titles that are not listed above please let us know ?

    NEW AMENDED LIST.

    8 - Pinocchio

7 - Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Gone With The Wind, Duel

6 - Two Mules for Sister Sara

5 - The Wizard Of Oz, Fantasia, The Guns of Navarone

    NEW AMENDED LIST.

    8 - Pinocchio

7 - Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Gone With The Wind, Duel

6 - Two Mules For Sister Sara

5 - The Wizard Of Oz, Fantasia, The Guns Of Navarone, Genevieve ( new addition )

If Rick locates this one it will leave only five to find. I really cannot report, if I am to be100% accurate, on the last Richardson posters printed until I sight the remaining earlier listed titles.
  • Anyone thought to ask Brian?  I would think his would be the most complete Richardson collection???

  • Thanks Rick. I am getting closer.
  • The five remaining images I need. Please keep an eye out for them.

    Dondi

    Hong Kong Affair

    Sabu And The Magic Ring

    Strange Intruder

    Walk Like A Dragon

By all means ask for me.
  • I sent him an email a while back, unrelated to this, but I never heard back.  Might have a different email addy now.  Anyone else have his details to ask maybe?
  • I believe Brian sold his collection. He also moved to a new job.
  • Thanks Ves and Rick for trying to help.
  • There you go...thanks Rick.

Most unlikely any are Richardson but an outside possibility one or even two could be.
  • Located an image of a Walk Like a Dragon daybill. It is Robert Burton produced and not Richardson Studio.

The remaining four I still would like to locate.

    Dondi

    Hong Kong Affair

    Sabu And The Magic Ring

    Strange Intruder

  • Can we see?

I'll send it to you as I am having problems. If you don't mind you might like to post if onto the thread foe me ?
  • Walk Like A Dragon daybill

  • Thanks Ves for that. Great likeness of Nobu McCarthy.
