    What a twot - it's #$*^%*! acting.

    Definately this.

Well it’s weird and awkward to,stay in character but you can rarely go wrong by “trying too hard.”

It’s extremely difficult to land a major role in a blockbuster film. It’s even more difficult to  sustain a long-term acting career.

Harrison Ford is a perfect example. He won a major role in American Graffiti. But after that he went back to a career as a carpenter. Lucas then hired him solely to help audition other potential actors for Star Wars but he was not auditioning himself; After endless auditions Lucas surprisingly decided that Ford had great camaraderie with Hamill and Fisher, so he gave the Han Solo role to him. A few years later Lucas dreamed up Indiana Jones but was adamant that he would not hire Ford again. But Tom Selleck, Lucas’ first choice, had to drop out due to scheduling difficulties. Lucas then changed his mind and hired HF for the role.

Presumably the BR director will be very impressed by Leto’s devotion and will recommend him for future roles....

  • Doesn't make him any less a wanker.
Read about his shenanigans on Suicide Squad too.  WANKER!   Excuse language.

I've only known well only one professional actor.

He was my roommate six months in Atlanta.

I quickly found out he was stone-cold broke and had no paying acting gigs.

I was about to evict him but he miraculously won a small speaking role in a McDonald's commercial that played nationally.

He quickly earned US $50K solely from the commercial.

His actor buds were very jealous of his (temporary) acting success.

He unfortunately quicklybsquandered his money and I had to boot him, although I quite liked him personally by the end.

I ran into him later while he was working as a cashier at a gas station. He good-naturedly joked that he was now a "professional petroleum engineer."

  • So here's the things with reviews, it's one person and hardly representative of the consumer in general - case in point is reviewers really disliked the original Blade Runner, I loved it, which is why I don't bother with reviews.

Reviewers should review a movie and sign off with their top 3 list of movies, so if you say this movie was great and on your favs list is Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (which I thought was tedious) then I know you're talking shite...well not my shite anyway.
  • Saw BR2049 today.

    Just a few notes.

First, it is a "pure" very serious sci-fi movie. That will greatly limit its mass appeal.

Second, it is very complex and difficult to follow. I had to read the Wikipedia plot summary and these articles to alleviate my confusion:

    https://www.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2017/oct/05/blade-runner-2049-does-it-live-up-to-the-critical-hype-discuss-with-spoilers

    http://ew.com/movies/2017/10/08/blade-runner-2049-ending-explained/

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner_2049

Third, the scenes with Joi, K's computer hologram sorta-girlfriend, are by far the best in the movie IMO. Unfortunately, I can't find a pic of the terrific special effects when "she" physically and mentally merges with others. Something totally fresh and new under the sun!

Fourth, it is really BR2049 PART 1. I was very surprised by the abrupt ending!
  • I managed to escape for 3 hours and experienced this movie on Sunday night.  Experience is the apt word here.  However, I am STILL not sure how I feel about it.  I need even more time to reflect...

What I do know is that after it finished I immediately wanted to see it again - but that may have been more so the joy of being so heavily immersed in 'that' world and not wanting to leave it just yet.  Then again it could also have been because getting 3 hours of free time to partake in such an endeavor is rarity these days :).

While the film is indisputably gorgeous, at times it felt too polished - one of the most successful aspects of the original was that while being placed in the future everything was grimy, retrofitted and worn down.  That landscape does populate this world too but there is a slickness that is somewhat less tangible on display here - maybe that's the point?.

I did really enjoy the flip on the premise of the original with Officer K and felt that Ford brought (ironically?) the most humanity to any of the characters.  Fundamentally, the script was very wise in leaving a certain issue unresolved...

What was up with the bees?  That's it for now (or until I miraculously find another 3 hours).
  • I think you have convinced me to at least try to get organised to go and see it....
  • Interesting...thank-you
  • What was up with the bees?  That's it for now (or until I miraculously find another 3 hours).
Director said its a reference to the huge bee die-off in the last few years. It's a sign of hope the bees survive.

I enjoyed it and am still thinking about it. I love it when a movie utterly transports you.

How are you feeling about it now?
  • BR is only doing OK so sequel is dead. Too bad, just like Tron 2:

  • Saw it today with hubby and we both really like it.  Loved all the references to the original.
Been a long time since I've enjoyed a film as much.
3 hours flew...it was slow paced but I didn't feel like it was dragging at all.
As everyone else said, looked spectacular...and loved the soundtrack.  Very much brought me back to the original.
Loved the scene with Rachel..."Her eyes were green."

Still annoyed that in some places they think we are stupid and can't put two and two together without blatantly telling us what it means.
These roles seem to suit Gosling...first Drive, now this one.

Was worried going in but definitely glad we saw it and on the big screen at that!
  • I'm gonna see it again tomorrow b4 it disappears from theaters. The industry is still in shock that it will lose money.  The best analyses IMO:

"Still annoyed that in some places they think we are sStupid and can't put two and two together without blatantly telling us what it means."

You must be smarter than me bc I had no idea what was going on. Why did K's boss - the only human in the movie - sacrifice herself without a fight? Why/how was K a male clone of Deckard's daughter? Why did K have to die at the end? Many more Qs....

    *****

After 2 weeks I continue to be fascinated by Joi, the computer hologram who could somehow physically merge with replicants. "She" for example was thrilled and delighted by the feel of rain:

  • By the way Denis Villeneuve is slated to remake Dune. Everybody is wandering if that will be canceled now bc no matter how "good" the film is it's still a hard-core, weird sci-fi movie that will draw little to no interest from females and teens.

  • The images don't mean anything as I haven't seen the movie, however if the central charater was an image of Harrison Ford then I would have said Blade Runner, so the scenery is well set...and you've too much time on your hands.

So true! Of course that advice is emanating from somebody with 10,000 posts on this forum!  ;)
  • Pretty good fan art, from reddit/movieposterporn (subreddit devoted to mostly fan art MPs, but some official MPs too):
