So the common belief in MPC World is that everybody else disdains MPs, so best to keep your interest in the hobby "under the radar."
Not IMO and IME (experience). It's like everything else, share but don't overshare. Lotsa peeps complimented on and discussed at length the posters in my apt. and in my office.
Anyways, that brings us to the topic du jour: When/why/what have you purchased an MP for non-collectors and how did they like it? (Or when have you bought an MP for others who gave it to a 3rd party?)

I'll start things off....
I always disliked my birth name Melvin. I am the 4th Melvin in the family and my grandfather's uncle was the first. (He semi-famously prosecuted the Scottsboro Boys, which led to crim. defendants being entitled to gov-paid attorneys). I went by "Mel" after age 18.
Anyways I like the name much better nowadays and even bought some "Melvin" posters for myself:

Even my old man liked it, and he watches a movie every five years. He Googled Donald O'Conner and told me all about him, life-long entertainer, used to work in circuses etc.

I have a adopted 'nephew' - adopted as in no relation but the family are close friends etc etc. He has pretty much got whatever was the hot kids movie over the years. From Disney to the likes of Spider-man.
My real nephew was given a Stars Wars poster when he was about 13, he still has it, keeps it safely tucked away.
I've given neighbour's kids Disney posters - whatever was their fav at the time.
I'm a big kid at heart so giving a kid a movie poster is cool, specially when they react the way they do.
My neighbor "Claudia" just loved this one, framed it too:

It was July 2014. The prior week an EMP employee had flown into DC and stolen, er I mean packed up/accepted for consignment, my final 500+ MPs.
So my ginormous poster cabinet was bare, useless, and taking up lotsa space. I was feeling charitable, so I listed it in the “Free†section of Craigslist DC. I listed it as “Large Art/Poster Cabinet†and warned that it was very heavy, enormous, and would require two men – sexist! – with a handtruck to haul it off. I also included a pic but did not know/detail its exact dimensions.
I expected 1-2 emails expressing interest in the next week. But the next morning I opened my email and 100+ interest emails popped up! Every five minutes another came in! I cancelled the listing and skimmed the requests, most of which were pleading “artistic poverty†and ever-lasting gratitude if I gave it to him/her. (I guess the DC arts community was larger/poorer than I thought.)
I lamely picked one at random and two perfectly-nice dudes showed up the next day with a handtruck. They were hopelessly outmatched/outwitted by the cabinet, shelves flying out at 100mph, etc. After 30 minutes of Olympian struggle, they FINALLY got it out into the hallway. I said goodbye/good luck. 45 minutes they hauled it BACK into the apt. because it was too big for their truck!
So I measured it and picked another email, explaining what had happened to the first pair. They showed up and handled it with aplomb. Goodbye forever….

Back in 2010, I bought the cabinet for $150 from a “yahoo in the sticks†off Craigslist.
I also paid him $75 to deliver it and gave him reasonable directions.
He was very late and he finally called me SCREAMING MANIACALLY about how he was hopelessly lost and how [BLEEPING] HORRIBLE [BLEEPING] LIBERAL GODLESS DC and I were!
I spent 20 minutes on the phone calming him down and we finally got him on the right track. I thanked him afterwards but felt like SLUGGING him!
I think Charlie mentioned once that he had one? two? upstairs and was worried about the floor sagging in that area?
They are certainly over sized beyond what they appear in most pictures....they sell for a reasonable prices here in the phx metro area.... reminds me i need to pick up another one....
Framed in antiquity (2010 actually, witness the cheapy Michael's frame I bought in that era):
I've given my brother a few---the "Saturday Night Fever"/"Grease" re-release double feature (he liked both growing up), "Trick or Treat" from 1986 (a film that starred Gene Simmons from KISS and Ozzy Osborne---his faves), and "Detroit Rock City"--which featured KISS in the artwork.
I gave my best friend the review style of one of his favorite movies "Ship of Fools". He had it hanging for several years---but it is down now in storage.
When I was a writer at The Fresno Bee, I gave everyone a framed poster for their birthdays. One got "GREASE 2" (which she loved for some reason), another had had a huge crush on Rick Springfield back in the day and I got her the "Hard To Hold" poster (which she decried as "porn"---oh well). Others got a "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel, the last "Gone With The Wind" wide re-release, and another got "The Prestige" (which the recipient had been raving about at the time). A special co-worker (I had started the same day she had) got two posters. She was a HUGE Sylvester Stallone fan and she got a "Rambo: First Blood Part 2" poster along with a re-release combo for "Rocky"/"Rocky 2". This was a good 10 years ago or so, but the person I gave those Stallone posters to (she now lives across the country, is married and a mom) messaged me a few months ago that she had hung them up in her house and still loved them. That made me feel good.
