The 2018 "Vancouver Discovery"! 11 1920s MPs found under floorboard

These 11 1920 MPs were actually found under an old hardwood floor in a house in Vancouver BC that was being demolished some years ago. eBay seller historystorecanada purchased these posters from the salvager who personally found and carefully removed these rare posters as he removed the old hardwood floor piece by piece. The holes, tears and cut marks in the poster are from the hard wood floor being installed and nailed through the posters once the flooring was laid out and installed overtop.

Collectively auctioned for $5,600:

  • While we're discussing Canada - 1930s three sheets were found in Toronto also under flooring:

Another three sheet found in Whitby (just outside of Toronto) under flooring:

The best find like this ever was one I was in on:

    Gold Rush 6-sheet, 3-sheet and TWO one-sheets
    Phantom of the Opera 1-sheet
    Safety Last 6-sheet
    The Eagle 6-sheet and 3-sheet
    Pilgrim 6-sheet

and on and on (but don't ask me to name any more, although just about all of them went through my auctions)

I doubt that the above one will be topped, but you never know!

HAS 100% honest condition descriptions - IS eMoviePoster.com
HAS auctions where the winner is the higher of two real bidders - IS eMoviePoster.com
HAS "buyers premiums" - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS "reserves or starts over $1 - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS hidden bidder IDs - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS no customer service to speak of - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS "nosebleed" shipping charges - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS inadequate packaging - NOT eMoviePoster.com

  • Bruce, where were they found, esp. POTA? [Now double inflation-adjusted BTW]

Why under floorboards, pretty flimsy insulation it seems?

Not too many watchers on these:

  • It is from those pre-asbestos days. The posters muffled sound and reduced heat transfer.

They were cheap and plentiful. Often they were kraftbacked ones.

  • Hi Guys,

We had lots of  discoveries over the years in Vancouver.

I got a really great one, about 10/12 years ago??

I was out looking for Vintage Art Deco door knobs in what I would describe as a store owned by a Hoarder.

I had a hard time get through the front door.

    Make a long story short.

Obviously we start talking about why do we collect at this mad capacity.

When he found out I collect movie posters, he wanted to show some stuff that his brother ( in construction ) had found in a old house reno.

There were several pieces, 3 sheet and 6 sheets.

All horrible shape and not very exciting graphically.

    Except,

There was this 6 sheet and I was not sure at what I was looking at first, but I wanted it.

Took it home and it came to me.

A 6 sheet "Daredevil" Jack with Jack Dempsey riding a horse punching the bad guy trying to rescue a damsel in distress on the other horse.

Such vivid color and tons of velocity the two sprinting horses. Just amazing image and not  that bad of a shape.

I ended up selling it pretty fast. It went to a dealer that probably flipped it to.

I wish I had an image to show, but I don't. Kind of wish I kept it as well.

    Cheers,

    dario.
