The Broken Melody ( 1938 ) beautiful Australian one sheet.
Appears to be a herald.
An update of the available poster images of The Broken Melody, the Cinesound Ken G.Hall 1938 released film. No sign of a daybill image so far that I am aware of.
This national re-release double bill played in many cinemas around Australia starting in the late 1940s. The When The Kellys Rode film was originally banned in NSW, so there it was a first release screening.
1949 newspaper advertisement for the double bill screenings of When The Kellys Rode and Storm Over Bengal that took place in Perth in 1949.
RIP David Gulpilil. Will live on through his great roles in Storm Boy, Croc Dundee etc.
Unsure as to why the above was posted on this particular thread, but nevertheless I am appreciative of Gulpipil's passing has been mentioned.
A wonderful actor and dancer who appeared in the following films which are just a few of the many great films he made during his long career.
Walkabout ( 1971 ). His first screen appearance.
The Tracker ( 2002 ).
Storm Boy ( 1976 ).
Crocolile Dundee ( 1986 ).
Mad Dog Morgan ( 1976 ).
I have just finished watching tonight his last film My Name Is Gulpilill which is a marvelous tribute to his life. It is indeed fortunat this film was made in time before he died.
Thoroughbred (1936)
is one of the rarest Cinesound Ken G. Hall directed films to find any poster
material of. This film was advertised in Australia as being Cinesound's
first 25,000 pound World production. Helen Twelvetrees was imported from
America to star in the film.
Are there any original Australian daybill or one
sheet images available that I am unaware of?
Hypnotised ( The Burgomeister ) ( 1935 ) extremely rare poster ( daybill? ), and a scene credited as being from the film. That's all I could locate.
Under the title of The Burgomeister this film was due to be released in Australia by RKO Radio Pictures. It was previewed at a privare screening in Sydney at the Embassy Theatre on the 29th of September in 1935. After the screening the film was withdrawn from distribution due apparently to the audience reaction and the poor quality of the film. RKO never got to release the film.
Later a re-edited version running only 56 minutes running time was released by the little known film distributor Scott Films under the new title of Hypnotised. It would appear the film only received a few country screenings in Australia. The first screening I could locate was at the Danceland Theatre in Moree East N.S.W. playing for two nights surprisingly as the main attraction in 1937. This was the year the film appeared in England with the altered title of Flames Of Conscience. 1937 could be the year that the film was fiirst released in Australia, The only other Australian screening that I could locate was in 1946 when the film played as a supporting attraction to Mayerling ( 1936 ) another independently released film at the Memorial Theatre Kyogle N.S.W. over two nights in 1946.
Out of interest Harry Southwell who appears in the film had formed The Players Corporation Ltd. to produce this film. The year before in 1934 Harry Southwell had produced When the Kelly Rode.
Do you know if a print of the movie still exists, Hondo? Okie
At the present time it is listed as a lost film Okie.
Only one short sequence of the film is known to
exist (held by the National Film & Sound Archive of Australia) .It is now considered a substantially lost film. ( lost-films.eu ).
Not known outside the archive, and even within
the archive, only in partial fragments. ( OZ Movies ). I am thinking that the dueling scene image that I had included previously may have originated from these fragments.
The following are details regarding the film.
Story about a burgomeister and family man who's
haunted by dreams about a Polish Jew he once betrayed. Second Australian feature adaption of the stage melodrama
"The Bells". Remake of the 1911 silent film "The Bells",
directed by W. J. Lincoln. ( lost-films.eu)
The above lantern slide image is from an unknown source, and the duotone image from IMDb.
( Unknown origin ). Impressive front of house display.
A Girl Of The Bush ( 1921 ). Interestingly and suprisingly there are also many different black and white still images available from various sources that I have also sighted. For a 1921 Australian film, over one hundred years old, to have so many available images is indeed unusual. One example appears below of this truely Australian themed film..
# 12 ( a ). It Isn't Done ( 1937 ) daybill. # 12 ( b ). It Isn't Done ( 1937 ) one sheet.
Both very desirable Australian film posters of this title.
(Everyones February 3 ,1937 issue / Trove
)
An advance Australian printed teaser 24 sheet of
It Isn't Done. This style of poster was displayed only briefly in 1937, before being replaced by a regular 24 sheet version of the film.
( Everyones December 30, 1936 issue / Trove )
What the regular Australian 24 sheet of It Isn't Done would have looked like.
Heritage ( 1935 ) Charles Chauvel directed film with the above 24 sheet being to my knowledge the only image of an Australian poster to be definitely identified from the list of printed posters listed above.
The below image would certainly appear to me to be that of one of the two daybills that were printed. This is based on the blank space at the top of the image, along with the size of the poster.
Are the following two images perhaps two of the three one sheets that were originally printed?
I have been unsuccesfully attempting to contact ozmovies.com.au, who is the displayer on their website of these images for
some considerable time now. Whenever I fill out their contact form with my message and then attempt
to send it, a message pops up that reads ''Oops! An Error Occured. The
server returned a ''500 Internal Service Error'' message. This happens every time I try to send a message to their website.
From what we can gather, ozmovies.com.au seems to be an unofficial fan
site. You could perhaps try to contact them through their Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/ozmoviesHowever, it does seem they have not been active on social media since
2017 so they may no longer be operating. ( NFSA).
Any thoughts as to if the three images displayed above are of a daybill and two Australian one sheets or not?

I think I have seen something on Heritage (movie not auction house) over the years but I can't remember...it could have been on the site you mention. I will double check when I get a chance maybe this weekend.
The Hayseeds daybill visual appearance pales in comparison when compared to the two Grandad Rudd daybills. Hopefully a full colour image of The Hayseeds will surface one day.
Daybill and a 9'' x 13'' handbill images courtesy of Ozmovies.
Southern Cross Crusade was filmed in 1959. This documentary didn't receive a general commercial release in Australia at all, but commencing in 1960 it had some limited religious organised theatrical screenings, including being shown at the Methodist church owned Lyceum Theatre in Sydney and at the Grovenor Theatre in Melbourne. More than likely the film would have also have played many times in 16mm at church venues and at hired halls all around Australia.
# 1.Typhoon Treasure ( 1938 ). First of a series of rare Australian printed posters of films that were made in Australia. A daybill of unknown length. Note no blank white section at the top of the poster. I am sure the poster is from the original and only release in Australia in 1938 and the top of the poster has been trimmed. Only image I have ever seen of this title.
Additional Australian image that appears to be a lobby card to me. I have had this image for a long time and I don't know now who posted the image originally on Google.
Thank you for all the great information and images! Loving it!
Thank you and much appreciated Ves. You may be pleased to know then that I have more images and information that will be included here over a period of time.
Ric Chauvel Carlsson has confirmed that this earlier posted image is an Australian 3 sheet poster of Sons Of Matthew.
( All three Heritage images courtesy of Ric Chauvel Carlsson )
These three images previously included earlier on this thread are photographs of original proof sheet artwork that was produced on board that was designed for the film. I was thinking that the images were designs for a proposed daybill and for two one sheets. Ric thinks this may be the case, but whether this is the case or not is not certain.
If anyone has any Charles Chauvel posters or any other material that they would like to sell, Ric is always interested in any material he doesn't already have and would like to add to his collection. If anyone has any material that they may wish to sell please send me some details through the the internal email setup here on the forum and I will contact him regarding this.
The Rats Of Tobruk ( 1944 ) Australian daybill ( Courtesy of Ric Chauvel Carlsson / NFSA ), and the Australian one sheet image previously submitted by Chris on the Australian At War Posters thread in November 2020. This poster image originated from a German website titled Filmposter.net. The poster is now in the hands of Ric Chauvel Carlsson.

Previously included on the forum's 24 Sheet Billboard Posters
thread by Matt in June 2015 , the following The Rats Of Tobruk 24 sheet poster I thought needs to
be included here now as well. The image sourced from a DVD photo feature section. Ric doesn't know the date of when this photograph was taken, or the theatre venue, but one would think it has to be circa 1944.

Unidentified Australian poster style and source origins.

The Hayseeds ( 1933 ). Rare early Australian film with very limited poster availability. A daybill or one sheet image would be great to see.

Two pages of an Australian herald of Secret Of The Skies ( 1934 ).
Titled above as The Secret Of The Skies. This unknown original source material has me wondernng if it possibly is a glass lantern slide or not?.
Is there a Universal long daybill still in existance? One has to hope this is the case, and that an image will surface one day.

The ebay displayed Australian daybill of The Hayseeds ( 1933 ). What has me wondering about is the fact this poster is in duotone.
