Thanks, man. Like the point so many of us get to in our collecting, I’m trying to purge some of the excess posters I have to afford the ones I still need. I still see a lot of posters I’d like to have, but if the odds are slim it will make it up on the wall, I do my best to resist temptation. Things are slowing down a bit in downtown purchaseville.
While I had hoped to update this thread with something pretty notable, I'm still working on that one. In the absence of something truly interesting, I'll offer you the typical grab bag of "why the *&#$@ would he buy that??
First off, a companion poster for one that I purchased some time back called High Test Girls. Probably both academy award winning films.
This one's a bit of an oddball. It's a Toy Story 3 poster and supposed to be 1 sheet size (I don't have it yet), but there's content on both sides:
Next, we veer off the vintage movie poster expressway, and make a quick stop in 24x36 commercialposterville. It's pretty predictable stuff for me, but it'll go with the other posters well:
Next, and methinks last for today, this one is a bit condition challenged, but I loves 'em all the same.
Until next time fellow poster nerds, be good, and if you can't be good, be careful.
Hey pal! How interesting... As I was scrolling up through your post, I saw the gas poster and thought I had that. Then, as I read and actually LOOKED at the poster, I realized I was thinking it was HIGH TEST GIRLS. Ha! I don't have GAS PUMP GIRLS, I guess. So, good for you. I'm also digging TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE. (Of course I am.). Aside from some discoloration, what's wrong with it? Bravo again.
Thanks, kiddos. Yeah, the TFOS is rough, but like so many of my others, I'll stick it in a frame when it's time to rotate it up on the wall and just enjoy it. I didn't pay a lot for it, so no harm, no foul. The High Test and Gas Pump girls are just peripherally automotive related fluff, but still fun. And when did Wurlitzer start making gas pumps anyway??
Good (insert applicable part of day for wherever you are in the world, and for whatever time of day you're reading this), fellow poster geeks! There's only 3 purchases here, but quite a few photos, so it's probably a good idea to give them their own post.
I've seen these now and again on ebay, and considered buying a few of them separately, but ran across a fairly complete set inexpensively a week or so ago and couldn't pass 'em up. Apparently they were sent to Pixar shareholders between '96 and '98 (according to the seller) and weren't something available commercially. The first two measure 22.5"x38" (as always, sorry for the crappy pics. they're screenshots of the ebay listing photos)
The next two measure 16.5"x39":
The LGM's measure 26"x33":
And the shipping box was part of the auction as well:
I know there are other Pixar shareholder posters out there. Now I gotta figure out if that's a collection I really need to complete.
Moving on, this was just a purchase to upgrade the same poster I already have that's in lesser condition:
And lastly for this post, there's only a handful of these that have interesting enough subject matter to display. I doubt this is a complete set, but here are 15 stills from Hot Rod Gang. Fairly soon, some of them will pop up in my thread of framed stuff:
Thanks for tuning in! Be sure to watch this space for another exciting episode of "why the &*$% would he buy that??"
Zowie! Those Pixar things are interesting...possibly a real find. Good for you. I dig them. Congrats on getting yourself a better copy of something you already have. I do that far too often. Ha! Stills---congrats on scoring so many.
Thanks, man. I don't think the Pixar things are super uncommon - they pop up on the 'bay fairly frequently, but people tend to sell them singularly, and getting quite a few at once was advantageous. I'm not too sure how far down the Pixar rabbit hole I want to go though. Any particular collecting genre is potentially a very slippery slope. I was happy to upgrade on the insert. Selling the lesser copy should be fairly easy.
Thanks, Matt. Here's another cool one. This isn't one I have, as it's sold by a UK website and shipping is currently pretty cost prohibitive, but maybe sometime in the future.
I'm sure you're all out busily buying carefully selected items to send to me in the Rockabilly's Christmas care packages you're assembling, but allow me to interrupt your progress for a few brief moments. Okay, okay, truth be known, there's about as much to see here as in one of my usual entries, but it'll give you something to look at from the world-o-posters, and that ain't nothin' to sneeze at. Come to think of it, it is the cold and flu season, so maybe it is something to sneeze at.
Anyhow, in the world of movie poster websites, there's only one that I know of that primarily caters to the automotive side of things. https://drivepast.com/ , a UK based site operated by a pleasant chap named Paul Veysey (and if Paul is a member here, I'll try and extract my foot from my mouth later), is a great site with LOTS of cool posters (and Paul also authored the book Motor Movies - The Posters!). I swung by his website the other day to see an announcement posted on his home page that he's retiring in 2022, and as such, would like to clear out his inventory. The following two posters are purchases I just made from Drivepast, and I'd encourage any interested folks to swing by and have a look.
This one, which IMDB has listed as The Babes Make The Law (which is a pretty cool, if not a tad sexist title) is the Italian version of that poster (thanks to Bruce for the availability of the image):
And this is the Swedish poster for the 1962 UK feature, The Fast Lady. IMO, it's the best art I've seen yet for the title:
That wraps it up for this entry. Watch this space, as compulsive, impulsive poster buyers never stay quiet for long.
Holy moley, bat-gender-neutral-person! It's been since December that I posted! How did the world survive?? However, what better day to get caught up with the tiny amount of reasonably dull acquisitions I have than twosday, 2-22-22? I think there are only 3 posters to post, so it'll be a quick trip.
First up, this is a poster created by (Rowe)/AMI, the company that made the jukebox I'm slowwwwwly restoring, to celebrate their 65th anniversary. The model I have is featured in the upper right (underneath the top row) labeled 1951. Not super exciting, but it might be cool to hang near the jukebox when it finally makes it back into the house.
Next up, this is just a promotional poster/advertisement for a product used to dampen sound in automotive applications. I forget the dimensions, but I think it's a bit bigger than window card size. Anyhow, being the petrolhead I am, I like posters with interesting hot rod art, and this fit that bill.
Lastly, this is the only actual movie poster on the list. I have a 1 sheet and a Belgian poster for the title, but I like the unusual full bleed style for the half sheet.
That's it for now. I have a handful of equally unexciting photos to post in my framing stuff thread, so after rearranging your sock drawer and cleaning the litter box, be sure to stop by.
Super nifty, pal. I like the CHECKPOINT one the best---but all three are swell. How cool you have a jukebox. My mom has one she got when I was in high school. The 45s in it are half my choices (80s pop hits) and half my brother's picks (I don't remember what...but we had totally opposite tastes). The juke doesn't work anymore and she's planning on selling it eventually. Your idea of the poster near the jukebox is keen, though. The Dyna-Mat one reminds me of something...I don't know...maybe the posters advertising rides at Disneyland? Hmm. I'm not sure, but the graphics cool, Daddy-O.

Here is a handy checklist to help tell eMoviePoster.com apart from all other major auctions!
