Yes, I went to the IMAX preview in Melbourne including a Q+A with Baz.
I have just realised Rick that you had previously mentioned that you were going to attend the screening, and I even responded. A senior moment happening for sure.

Watched EPiC - Elvis Presley in Concert. If you thought Austin Butler made a good Elvis, make sure you see how good the real thing really is. It's typically flash and frantic in Baz style.
This made me laugh...as if anyone could be better than the real thing ;)
  • Now that the Hitchcock box set is done, I have turned to a few films that have been high on my want to watch list for a very long time with an international flavour.

First up, Infernal Affairs...the Chinese film on which Scorsese's The Departed was based on.
Andy Lau is superb in this, I will need to find more things I can enjoy his wonderful performances in.

A great film, which only hit less because I have already seen The Departed.
Which one is better?  Hmmm hard question, they are a little different in story and very different in style so not a fair comparison.
This is one I would very much recommend, but I feel you will get more out of it if you haven't seen The Departed (is there anyone left on the planet?)

A set of 3 films...I am on the fence about watching the sequels...Lau and Leung are wonderful together in this one...ah, what am I saying...they have Andy in them so definately add them to the list me thinks.

    Next Up Pusher.

My love of anything with Mad MIkkelson is not a secret.
Unfortunately, he's only in this for a short part of the film, but you can see how amazing he is going to become (this is his first film apparently!)
This Danish crime film about a week in the life of dealer was wonderfully suprising.  Thoroughly enjoyed a different take on the well known subject matter.
A film from Drive director Refn, you can see the stylistic beginnings he has honed start here, from camera work, to music, to character development.

Highly recommend this one, and I cannot wait to watch Pusher II (Another trilogy of films - with each having an independent story focusing on a key character).

If anyone has a poster for either or both film...hit me up!

  • I had my first IMAX experience to see EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert. People stood and cheered at the end and applauded several songs along the way. It takes a lot to make Elvis fans happy, but they are with this film.
  • Lucky guy!

  • Just finished watching the 4k DVD/Blu-ray release of Battle of Britain.

A really nice limited run restoration by Australia based Imprint Films (subsidiary of Via Vision Entertainment). Still the odd grainy scene, as expected, although definitely sharper than my old DVD copy. The Sound & Score a phenomenal quality.

They also have some wonderful Hitchcock, Hammer, Universal Monsters and Michael Powell/Emeric Pressburger on offer.

The box sets seem to sell out fast and have a pre-order page for future releases here:

  • It would be great to own all of those box sets.  The Powell & Pressburger set has some top titles, but it doesn't contain my favourite film of theirs I Know Where I'm Going. Just love this film and always fondly remember the beautiful version of the title song sung briefly at the end of the film. For anyone who may not have viewed this film I do thoroughly recommend for you to check it out.

Oh, this was on SBS recently here.  I started watching but had to leave to pick up my kids from something.  Definately going to revisit now
