Do many of the members here no longer collect?

I have a question. A major part of this forum used to be the New Acquisition Threads, started each month, and then quickly filling.

Over time those grew more and more sparse, until finally they stopped altogether.

Is this because many of the members here no longer collect or maybe just don't have the time to post, or maybe don't like to show off what they have?

Here is a handy checklist to help tell eMoviePoster.com apart from all other major auctions!
HAS lifetime guarantees on every item - IS eMoviePoster.com
HAS unrestored and unenhanced images - IS eMoviePoster.com
HAS 100% honest condition descriptions - IS eMoviePoster.com
HAS auctions where the winner is the higher of two real bidders - IS eMoviePoster.com
HAS "buyers premiums" - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS "reserves or starts over $1 - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS hidden bidder IDs - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS no customer service to speak of - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS "nosebleed" shipping charges - NOT eMoviePoster.com
HAS inadequate packaging - NOT eMoviePoster.com

  • I have recently sold down a lot of my collection because I don't have anywhere to show it or store it properly, I still have some left, but that will be going to you too Bruce! I've been collecting for over 30 years so it was time to say goodbye.

Unfortunately....selling my collection has meant I was finally able to buy some prime pieces from some of my favourite films and stars, so I seem to be giving you back a lot of the money I made from selling the posters in the first place. I'm very happy with mu collection at the moment and will continue to buy when I see items I love.

  • To be honest, I figure not everyone wants to see everything. It’s also partially feedback loop. When you post something you are excited about and it’s gets no reaction - Well, you stop posting… Then there are the silent trolls that post over top of you or bump another post that was before you. We are really like a bunch of siblings, those of us that have been around, years and years of muttering in silence.

Even when you have something cool, one never knows how the reaction will go.

  • I stopped collecting 4 years ago.  I retired and that limited my disposable income.  We also sold the house and moved to a smaller apartment, so not a lot of display room.
I really need to sell it off at this point, but much of what I collected has limited appeal.  Since Bruce is now limiting what he accepts, I need to sort out that 20 pct that has sufficient value and send it on.  I hate to think what happens to the rest of it
  • I still collect but a lot less than before. I just made my first overseas purchase in about 3-4 years!
  • In the last year or so, I have purchased at least half a dozen large collections from people who have decided that it was time to sell their entire collections. I guess there has been a transition to younger collectors who are interested in more recent material.

Up until 3 months ago, you could have sent it all to me. I tried to keep warning people what was coming, but obviously did not reach many people.

Here is another prediction. Within a year (at the very most) I will raise the minimum to $50, so please every potential consignor bear that in mind.

  • I’ve got to figure out a way using AI that I can auction all of Bruce’s <$50 posters.

With endlessly rising costs of shipping, packaging, and labor, I don't believe there is a way for a large scale operation to sell or auction low value items. I think doing so is now back in the hands of one man operations (on eBay or on websites), and we may see the return of shops and shows, where packing and shipping is not a consideration.

If Charlie (or anyone else) can figure out a way to make selling or auctioning low value items pay, they deserve a ton fo credit!

  • I collect a lot less than I use to. In the last 5 years I average about 2 posters a year. Some of my Unicorns are still that. Unicorns
