Formal Apology to Richard Halegua

I would like to formally apologize to Richard Halegua...

I made an casual arrangement over facebook with Richard to complete two relining jobs and restoration for a mint Pulp Fiction One Sheet.  Relining is usually very expensive, I misunderstood the nature of our initial conversation in that it was a chance for me to experiment with relining on less expensive posters and for Richard to get a very good deal in the process.  I took liberties on the turn around time now going on 30 months.  The one poster was quite simple the other not so much. I have never done movie poster restoration for money.  I took this "lesson" on for the experience trusting that he understood this was not professional restoration, turn-around times, or fees.

Richard, please accept my apology for keeping your relining jobs for such as very long time.

Since I have done such a poor job, I will not be taking any restoration jobs in the near future.  My apologies - Dario is good.  Go with Dario... :)

  • Charlie, I was hardly angry that you still have my posters. As a matter of fact, until you posted to the APF thread the other day, I had (temporarily) forgotten about them (again)

I wasn't worried about you ripping me off, but after I messaged you via APF.. to no response
and then I emailed you the following day... to no response......

well, that was irritating. so I messaged you here

all you needed to do was send me a note "Hey Rich, I'm a moron. I still haven't done your poster"
that's all, instead you sent me that infuriating post, which now you say is a joke.

    a very poor joke indeed.

Had you messaged me back "Sorry Rich, I'll figure out how to get on it"
it would have gone back to the back burner again

your reply was absolutely infuriating (no folks, I won't post it. Charlie can if he likes, but I suggest he doesn't as it will make your jaw drop)

now you have to go public with being a dumbass who can't finish a job in multiple years time.
weren't you the same person who started a thread about Chris Cloutier not handling your own posters in something like 6 months (a fraction of your timeframe on my posters)

If you couldn't handle dealing with the work of these posters, you should have said so. I could have sold them just the way they were. I would have lost money (we had a tiny roof leak in the office, over my collection cabinet, these posters got partially water-screwed), but I could have sold them. Now it seems one poster (a pretty rare one at that) is permanently #$@&%.

But guess what, even that would not have pissed me off. YOUR DUMBASS MESSAGE DID PISS ME OFF

I'd like to see what would happen if you sent your boss with such a message
    any business associate
    your wife!

I'm really not sure I even believe it was a joke, as you now say it was.

I have no idea what to tell you now. I was pissed off all day because of what "my pal" messaged to me.
    I'm still angry. Dumbass

Well for one I never approached name calling in my e-mails and there were no APF e-mails that went unanswered.  I don't even have any APF e-mails from you between yesterday and 2014. If there were any in the last few days it was a glitch with their upgrade.

Rich, I will say that you shouldn't go around being this happy go lucky instigator, playful buddy type guy and then get pissed when people try to have a little fun with you.  Ask the other two clowns that are with me on the forum - dishing it out is an art form.  I considered you one of the guys - I was actually looking forward to introducing you to my wife and having a round at Cinevent...  Not months ago you were super helpful with Cinevent and now I am this asshole that has a fuck you attitude... Nothing about me has changed.  I would never have sent that ludicrous email to anyone I thought would take it serious - I'm not that kind of guy. You can post any of it you want - I thought the muscle cat was awesome... I guess I out-kicked my coverage concerning our friendship.

Tell me what you would have been able to sell them for as damaged and we can settle.  I want to make it right.  I'll return the Pulp Fiction and we will call it a day.  I really don't know when I can get to them especially the Lang poster.  The previous acrylic restoration really screwed that one up.

I also resent being called a moron and dumbass. My wife and I are quite capable, but the most valuable thing we have to manage right now is time.  My family time and my real job are priorities...  I misunderstood our arrangement concerning time - feeling it a more casual laid back effort.  I never viewed it as approaching a contract or this hard line agreement. In my mind I was doing you a favor...

  • Actually, I'll post them - I have nothing to hide...  I won't post yours to save the children's ears...

Dude... When you pay me like Cloutier you get Cloutier service. :P I'll bring Silver River to Cinevent... The other one is still sitting in my cabinet FUBAR. I've probably only backed 10 posters this year. My daughter has taken priority with her activities.

Well I am not a professional poster restorer. You gambled with an amateur and lost. One of them is done, but my wife (also not a professional full time water color pencil applicator) has been too busy carting my daughter around to swimming and tennis practice 5 days a week. Not to mention trying to start an engineering firm and doing traffic studies on the weekend. But no worries - if you want me to go full professional, I can send you a $1,000 invoice for typical one sheet relining costs minus the $60 poster you sent me.

    _____

Plus my dog ate my washing table...

    _____

What?  You've been smoking today haven't you...
    ______

Rich, you've got me all wrong buddy.  There is no '#$*^%*! you' attitude with me.  I was messaging you like a buddy here - just #$*^%*! around in jest like you like to do.

But I will say when we struck this deal there wasn't much professionalism involved.  I don't have a good excuse because I didn't think I would need one.  I am sorry you feel this way.  Everything I've been saying is in jest.  Of course if I thought this was an actual restorer-client relationship I would have been more respectful of turn around time and how I responded to you...  I don't restore posters for money.  I don't have the time.  If I misunderstood, I apologize.  You said they were $100-$200 posters.  If you are intent on this arrangement, I'll send your Pulp Fiction poster back, wrap up the Silver River, cover $100 on the Hangmen Also Die. I'll even cover the cost to ship the Silver River and the Pulp Fiction.

I hate that you've decide to go this route with me.  I always considered you reasonable.

Here is a refresher on our conversation:

(I won't post these since they include his comments)

    ______

Richie, I can't tell if you are just trying to rile me up or you are being serious here.

I was #$*^%*! joking!  I don't restore posters for money.  I didn't take a job.  I took a "lesson" from a poster buddy for a poster in trade.  Yes obviously worth more than $60 - I was just trying to egg you on.

Let's just table it for now.  I've got a work plan due to the Federal Highway Administration by 5PM.  I really don't have time to worry about you posters.

    _______

    OK work plan shipped off.

Consider this my formal apology.  I'll also make a post on the forum.

I am sorry I misunderstood our arrangement and for the sassy e-mail (which I maintain was in good fun).  If there is anyone that knows he still has posters to do, it is me.

Your Silver River and my High Plains Drifter are sitting there in view of my computer waiting for my wife to do touch ups.  I am color blind - you don't want me doing touch-ups...

As far as the Fritz poster, I am confident I will get it done at some point.  If you are at your wits end, I can send you $250 in retail trade. Once it is done I am sure I can send it off for auction and get more that that.  I made this deal long before I started my online business and still have never taken money from anyone for movie poster restoration work.  I have no desire to make money from restoring other peoples posters. I don't have the time and that is for Dario and the like to make a living from.

Else, I am not sure how to quell your anger.  I appreciate your patience but like I said never thought this was more than an opportunity for me to work on my skills and for you to get them relined at a very low price.

    Best,

    Charlie

  • yeah Charlie.. Nice playing victim.

  • I don't think there are any victims here... I think we are caught in a work wind of assuming tone and context in text.  I'll give you a call Monday and we can work it out.
  • World wind...
  • golly Charlie, if there is a victim it is me.
there is no whirlwind, but now clearly you think somehow you've been mistreated or had something foisted upon you that you didn't deserve.

face it. you took on a job. You should have been able to tell if you were going to be able to complete it before you started work AND if you didn't think you would be able to do it, you should not have done anything to the other poster. There would not have been any penalty.

but that isn't what pissed me off. If you see my previous response, what irritated me was that I did not get a response via my email or via my APF message, so I messaged you here and you sent me that stupid damn message. Until that moment, I was at worst, mildly irritated.

why you felt the need to post about your stupidity publicly, I have no idea and why you seemed to want to dig your hole deeper by making yourself out to have been imposed upon is ridiculous. The only person who has been imposed upon is the guy who sent you posters for work, as Old West Indians would say "many moons ago", which now everyone knows because you posted this thread, which was completely unnecessary

the only thing you should say - which by the way, is all you should have said in the first message - is "Rich I'm really sorry. Obviously I'm a **** up, I don't know what to do about this other poster which I really screwed up worse than it was screwed up and I'm sorry"

by the way Charles, concerning your comedy writing, not only should you not quit your day job, you also shouldn't get up on stage for amateur night.

concerning your linenbacking career.. Don't quit your day job for that either, but amateur night was achieved!

I recommend not adding to this thread.
  • I went public because I've seen you in action bud... You manipulate to fit whatever agenda you are working on.  It's your MO and everybody knows it.

But whatever... Do you want compensation or not?  I'm done with trying to be nice about this.  If you want to think I am a fuck up I am ok with that.  I just want to move on.  I don't really want to work on your posters any more.

You've stated the Lang poster was $250 undamaged...  The Silver River goes for a bout a $140 undamaged. I'll paypal you $400 and we'll call it even.

  • Charlie, you didn't understand one damned thing I said here. Instead you have painted yourself as the victim and with your further comments, all you did was show me you are useless. Insulting me because you're an asshole is not and never was a solution

so, I'll  say it in plain English.

    I want nothing from you
    nothing

send me the poster you already backed and the pieces that now remain of the other
and send back the NM Pulp Fiction one sheet also.

    keep your money

when you ship them back, be sure to package them carefully & then.. fuck off
