Chalk paint/milk paint issue

Hi everyone,

I am new here. I am restoring a poster from 1912. Its on a very thick cardstock. It is very old and fragile. It has a white paint that is chalky in texture that the background was painted with and then the text in black. When ever you touch the background this white paint rubs off. How can I stop this? Is there something I can spray on the poster to stop the original paints from degrading? Thanks!

Pictures please... It is probably tempura which can be held in place with fixative...

I know....its going to be very hard but its super important to my mom. So I am going to have to work long and hard to try and salvage it!

is there a fixative that anyone would recommend to help me with the chalking of the paint issue?

You may also want to spray the back with deacidification spray after you fixative the front (let it dry first)...
