Original From Russia With Love Aussie Daybill

I have located an original day bill of FRWL currently for sale linen backed for $4,000.00 AUD is this overpriced considering the scarcity of this poster??

Any advice would be appreciated before I make a decision.

Thanks ROB

    Hi Rob

    Welcome to the forum

I think it has the potential to sell for close to 4k at an overseas auction if the right players turn up. Local auction such as ebay not quite sure. Having said that it can pay to buy local and save on gst import customs , delivery.

How bad do you want it?

    Best

    Sven

  • Thanks so much Sven, I really appreciate your advice.

    Have a great night.

  • Rare and sought after daybills are going up, the market for daybills will not lessen and a lot of daybills are heading overseas as Aussie buyers balk at what they perceive is a high price but in reality is the market price, so like Sven said - how bad do you want it?
  • The other question to ask is how often would this daybill come up for sale? Even if it's 10% - 20% higher than you might want to pay now, if one doesn't come up for another 5 years, would the extra $$ be worth it for the extra years of pure, unadulterated bliss of owning such a great poster?

And David, you're right about the O/S buyers - I'm amazed how many daybills I seem to be repatriating lately! If only they could talk...
  • I don't have one but it's not a daybill that really grabs me.
  • Thanks everyone for your insight and advice, it is greatly appreciated.

I agree with Rick that its not an overly attractive poster, but I have the other three of the first four daybills in excellent condition so owning the first four collectively does appeal to me.  I would prefer it if the poster wasn't linen backed, however, beggars cant be choosers when it comes to a poster that is thin on the ground.

Have a great day one and all and thanks again.

    Cheers

And that thar is what they call round 'ere parts as a 'gotcha'
  • Point taken David.......

I will be viewing the poster today and will be very mindful not to be impulsive.

It has to be in extremely good condition to warrant top money I would have thought.

Just as an asides, I have come across a rare three sheet that If purchased would require linen backing.

As a rough guide how expensive would it be to linen back a three sheet??

    Any guidance would be helpful.

    Cheers.

  • OK, thanks David.

That adds significantly to the acquisition price,  if it requires backing.

BTW, I succumbed and bought FRWL, it was a great poster in extremely good condition.

Thanks very much for your guidance, it is appreciated!!!

    Cheers

  • Congratulations!  Always nice to be able to tick another off the list, especially when it's one you have been after for a long time :)
  • Well done Rob! First four must be an amazing feeling! Dont believe  many have conquered!

Thanks Sven, as a novice and relatively new to this caper it is nice to know not many have got the first four daybills.  I actually have the first five, but didn't think You Only Live Twice rated a mention due to the fact it is not overly difficult to obtain.  I will now try and get the rest as they shouldn't be too hard.  It would be nice to pick them up at reasonable prices though as opposed to some inflated prices some people ask.  Have a great weekend!!!

Thanks David.  I am starting to enjoy posters as a new hobby.  I just now have to learn how to store them properly and need to obtain Mylar sleeves etc:  I will post a separate thread about where to obtain these.  Cheers.  ROB

Funnily enough I work in the same suburb as these guys.  How expensive are Mylar sleeves for daybills if you buy in reasonable multiples???  Thanks Sven!!

It was around $8 for a custom mylar sleeve. I then used double sided tape to attach it to a board such as the archival corrugated cardboard. You can have them standing up on display when not in storage.

A cheaper way , although not for viewing pleasure  is to buy a roll of mylar and cut to size and stack them on top of each other between board or in drawers.

    Cheers!
  • Thanks Sven.
