Two new dislikes now from a current adminidstrator and an ambiguous reply from another admininostrator. I am waiting for the third current admibistrator's response and of course David to respond.

  • What exactly did David do? I don’t see any name calling or significant trolling.  If any member feels like David has gone too far in support of Lawrence’s claim, please PM me directly.  I think we have spoiled you guys - especially if you have never seen a week long knock-down-drag-out, which happens on APF and in great fun sometimes on NSF(W)GE...

So please, in trying to be a responsible Admin here, if anyone other than Lawrence feels David has gone too far please PM me directly. Or if you are uncomfortable PMing me, Mark and Matt can also stand in.

I’m guess, I am the ambiguous post?  I don’t think I have ever disliked a post. If I ever did it was an accidental mouse click. I’ve also never checked my hit count on any of that.  What I may do is investigate if the dislike button can be turned off.

The primary reason for these are for moderation.  I haven’t checked the rules in a while but technically if a post is flagged a certain number or time it will be deleted and held in a moderation limbo.  This is to prevent spammers and inappropriate posts from staying visible.

I have reviewed the logs on the two posts and do find it interesting that David has disliked those posts.  I would also suggest that to retaliate by disliking his posts would be stooping to the same level.

I do not say this in jest - I do think you do need to do some serious soul searching on your personal priorities.  You are an established member, presumably enjoy researching these topics, and enjoy posting and the interaction.  Are you really going to concern yourself with some low-level trolling.  You are way above this pettiness in my opinion.

DAVID: I know your having a bit of fun but some folks aren’t built for it...

  • I have several thoughts.....
1-I’m still musing over Bruce’s image of Rodney King and trying to figure out what it means.
2-I don’t mean to be insensitive Kawrence but maybe David accidentally hit “dislike” as someone stated-they are close to each other. I have one or two and think, oh well. You have so many more likes!
3-Charlie is right. Other sites-take some time to read, have so much more intense “bickering” its why i like this site! All here are so civil-if someone takes a shot across your bow, it’s just in jest or ignore it. We admins want this to be a civil place; and it is.
4-many people respond and acknowledge your expertise re Aussie paper, so let one little dislike slide and keep doing what you want to do.
5-now im curious as to why Matt has so many negative responses....background check in order.... ;)

Guess what, from over 90% from dickheads that run or use to run this forum.

So go and watch Running On Empty (great Aussie flick) and stand in the far que and grab a cup to collect the yellow river that runs down my back. I love weather but not that kind of weather.

Hey, I reviewed your dislikes and one of them was from me - lol... I have removed the obvious accidental click. So now you only have one!
  • I disliked the post about you posting about disliking the fact that someone (anonymous) disliked your post. It's called an opinion, who are you to tell that anonymous person you dislike the fact they disagree with you and until they own up you are not going to talk to anyone. Get the fuck on with it Lawrence, say something if you have something to say and stop whinging about the fact some people might not agree with you.

This a forum, by definition "a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged."

Did it come through as an image on your computer? It is a link to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=17&v=1sONfxPCTU0

While you are in the mood Sven there is a dislike aimed at me from you on the Movie Prop Trivia thread that perhaps was clicked in error

So you want people to go back over their old posts and remove their dislikes, their vote downs, their off topic and their disagrees of anything you said in case they pressed it by accident?

But of course they should leave their Awesomes, Likes, LOLs and Insightfuls of your posts because they definitely meant that.

    Are you fucking kidding?!

Wish we were a little closer in proximity, I’ve got a bottle of scotch and a couple Arturo Fuente cigars that could lighten the mood.... B)
  • i have never intentionally disliked anything, or, from memory, liked anything, and have never checked if any of my comments have been liked or disliked. It's of no importance to me.
  • I am going to kindly request that we all be bigger men/ladies and just leave Lawrence be.  I understand that at times personalities don’t mix but all in all he does not hiss/bite unless provoked.

If I could give advice from personal experience/choice.  I didn’t always get along with Lawrence - some would say I still don’t. I found his inability to take humor and/or a good roasting frustrating.  This often tempted me to only further provoke his whinniness and delicate nature.  But then I realized that is just his personality, just as it is mine to have a bit of fun from time to time.  I also think this is why David, Matt, and I got on so well when we started this place.

But what I have learned and practiced over the past year or so is just to ignore him.  He has his playground and since I don’t enjoy playing with the guy, I don’t even visit his threads unless moderation is needed.  I was not kidding when I said I had to catch up on 185 posts.  In fact I am well over a hundred posts behind on many of his threads.

I did receive a very nicely written PM about the situation and I agree with the assessment - just ignore him.  He is not really doing anything to anyone.  Is his obsession with dislikes frustrating?  Compared to most of us - yes.  Is he hurting anyone - no. I’m sure he will take offense to this but that is not my intent.

I don’t find anything happening actionable offenses but I would hope we can again move past this pick on Lawrence session and get back to posters.

However, if you guys want to pick on each other and can do it like the poster buddies I know we are - have fun responsibly.

  • O.k. then, Charlie and at least one other member ignores me, David has attempts with failed humor to have a go at me, Mark ( Eisenhower ) is now hitting the dislike and WTF buttons, so please heed Charlie's latest advice and ignore me then.Taking  these members out of calculation is there enough interest from the remaining forum members to warrant me continuing here? I would appreciate hearing from other members if they wish for me to continue contributing and hopefully gain some knowledge and enjoyment from my postings that I contribute here. Responses are usually low in numbers so it would be very pleasing for me to hear your thoughts.
  • We appreciate your input Lawrence. Let's move on and concentrate talking about bits of paper, cardboard, film, glue, sharpie, pencil, wheat paste, plexiglass, wooden and metal frames , artists, actors, directors, grade 5 artists, mould, printers, Bruce, linen, beer, boobs, Thiery, Jeff, APF

I may have crossed out one too many words....
  • Lawrence,

For me what is most interesting is what factors make an Australian poster a re-release over a first release. I find Australians and Italians to be far and away the hardest countries to date posters from, both because so little is dated, and so many movies appear to have had fairly quick re-releases.

So what I like most is when you not only identify a poster as original or re-release, but you also tell WHY that is so, so that I learn useful information I might then be able to apply to similar titles from the same time period.

Thanks for all your past efforts!
    Bruce

  • What Matt and Bruce said.  Appreciate your input !
Look forward to your posts as always.

  • Same as above, I'm sure that many of us (even the silent lurkers) gain a great deal of knowledge from your answers Lawrence.
  • i always like interesting information so keep it coming

If I recall, since it is probably the only of Lawrence’s updates I find stimulating, there is a pre-code nudity thread...

A pity then that a heap of unseen material, mainly lobby cards that I have images of, but haven't yet produced on this thread, is unlikely to see the light of day there.

    Hey Bruce,

Clearly I'm NOT Lawrence, but just to provide my 2 cents, in a lot of examples I've seen / own a RR daybill tends to drop out colours - tending to be duo-tone as opposed to full colour. The bigger challenge I've found is figuring out whether the duo-tones are subsequent printings but still from the original release or true RR from a later time frame.

My two cents worth here Pancho. You appear to collect either sexploitation or horror films, with many being released here in Australia by independent Australian film distributos such as Blake Films, N.S., Regent, Cemp and  Cemp-Regent and others, along with many very obscure distributors such as Lestrig Films, Anjohn International and Associated film Distributors to list just a few. A very difficult task to tackle as many of the 1960's Blake Film,  and the other distributors I previously mentioned released duotone daybills and they were the only copies produced and are first release. Many of the printings are without a printer's credit which doesn't help. A point that I do wish to make is that with most of the titles in your preferred genres very few of them would have received a re-release or a second printing, An exception is with Roadshow. Many of their duotone posters were first releases but there were a number that were second printings along with a The Mummy re-release.
