We admins have a growing concern that we may be eventually approached about copying materials such as images and direct quotes from other sources. Please if images are not yours or if you are pasting a direct quote or near direct quote - provide a link or bibliography of sorts.

Bruce at EMP has been kind enough to allow us to link and post his images. LAMPâ€™s Ed is a member but that doesnâ€™t give anyone the freedom to copy from LAMP without at least giving them a plug. Much less I do not believe you are even allowed to post material from the member section of LAMP.

So just drop a plug:

sometimes stuff gets weird. I buy a poster and Bruce sends me the non-watermarked image. I place this image on my website and then link it to a post here. Sometimes I buy from Heritage, then take their image and chop off the image by HA and post it on my site.

But here's the thing. I own the piece. For me it is a matter of convenience and I can scan the cards myself and post those. Not sure there is any copyright issue in these cases.

I agree. If you bought the poster and Bruce sent you an image, I don't see a need to reference. If you don't own the poster you would post with an EMP watermark. Heritage has water marks on some posters as well. It is not so much about copyright for poster images, since what we do are in fair use. But if you are using images and findings from other research just give credit where credit is due. If you are taking someone else's image, why not give them a plug.

Sure, we took the photo, but we give those excellent unwatermarked images as a bonus to those who win, and I know lots of buyers really appreciate them (especially people with websites of their collections).

I have resisted putting watermarks on the majority of my images but I do find that people constantly lift the images off my site and post them elsewhere with no credit at all.

It should be a matter of common courtesy to ask permission to use images.
