June 2019
Allright you poster monkeys! We're officially a week into June, and there's no RA thread. Y'all should be ashamed! Okay, now that my pseudo rant is over, on with the excitement of my most recent purchases (or you could get up and go grab a snack. probably a better choice by far).
Keeping with both the automotive theme, and also re-buying posters I've had before, I picked up this inexpensive 1 sheet for the cool, 40's woody family wagon at the top:

Continuing with the car theme, I guess this is considered a jumbo window card (20x28 inches - not far off a half sheet, really) for the first Cars movie. The only other Cars poster I have is a daybill, also from the first Cars, which was sent as part of a care package during some tough times by my (and many others') poster hero, Vesna, owner of the hugest heart in posterdom.
Anyhow, here da poster:

And lastly for now, a movie oddly similar in theme to Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, but with radiation instead of aliens as the culprit, but also kind of a similar poster. This is definitely better than the US paper on the title:

That's it for now. I wish there was more, or something more exciting, but that's all I got. Thanks for lookin'! Now go out and buy some posters!

Since total world domination seems a bit Pinky and the Brain, far flung and fairly difficult, I'll just shoot for TOTAL THREAD DOMINATION for now. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!! There aren't a whole lot of modern hot rod themed movies, probably because hot rodding has always been kind of a subculture of a subculture, so there aren't a lot of modern HR movie posters to collect. I posted the Deuce of Spades one recently, which looks much better in person than in a smallish picture on my monitor, so it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. This other movie has been around since 2008, and I'm just now getting around to buying a poster for it. I don't know if they were ever printed as an actual one sheet, but like Deuce of Spades, this one is 24x36. Visually it's kind of meh-ish, but I do dig the title:
With the likelihood of me finding a copy of the Danish poster for Dragstrip Girl (below, and thanks for the image, Bruce
While on the subject (which I'm not remotely an expert on), are there other foreign/non COO movie posters for the 50's & early 60's hot rod movies like Hot Rod Girl, Dragstrip Girl, Dragstrip Riot, Hot Rod Rumble, etc, etc? I've seen Mex lobbies for Hot Rod Girl and The Choppers, but no Mex posters. I've seen a German poster for Hot Car Girl that doesn't look anything like it's US counterpart. I've seen a couple quads for titles I don't recall right off, but they seem pretty rare. If you run across any in your travels, let me know. It kind of sounds like it could be the subject for a separate thread, but also one that has the potential to sink like an anchor. Whaddya think?
U.S.A. 1961 4 in 1 AIP poster advertising 1950's titles. The Roadracers is the only one out of the four films appearing on the above U.S. posters that received a theatrical release in Australia. The Road Racers ( 1959 ) daybill is from the delayed 1965 Australian release. Note this title appears to be the only one out of the four titles that doesn't feature JD's.
Amost all low budget 1950 films of this genre that were distributed by AIP, Allied Artists and other povery row studios were never released theatrically in Australia.
I have contributed here just is case a separate thread doesn't eventuate.
A few oddities, small size promo posters.
dr No isn;t new but i saw one sell on Bruce's auction this week for a hefty price, much more than i thought this was worth. The some Like it hot is printed in australia, and has a nicer image than the daybill
Next up, another exploitation-y title - this one a decade earlier. It's a 1941 film, but a R51 poster. I have a better copy of this one already, but it too was inexpensive, and I kind of like the well worn, been around the block more than a couple times look.
And last up for now, just a fun one, also in questionable condition, but I have a banner for Two Lost Worlds, so they'll go well together.
Why the maddened mastodons would fight for the savage women kind of escapes me, unless the savage women would make a decent snack. Who knows. Not only that, but there seems to only be one mastodon on the poster, and he doesn't really look maddened. Just a little grumpy on his way to get his first coffee of the day maybe.
Continuing the theme, my understanding and opinion of Benton window cards used to be that they were sort of like one step above posters printed for the consumer/commercial market. That they were sort of printed as needed/on demand and not reeeaaally genuine movie posters. My opinion has softened a bit over the years to understand that in probably most cases they were printed to advertise a particular movie(s) at the time of release. Not only that, but in cases like the one below, and similar to pressbooks, the art on them is different than is found on the standard posters for the title, and more like the ad sheets found inside pressbooks. Fortunately I have regular posters for both of these films, but this is a nice addition:
What sort car do you drive? Matt???
A 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4 door:
And a white 2005 Honda CR-V that there's no worldly reason to have a picture of, which was actually my mother's, who no longer drives.
