The Art of Hammer: Posters from the Archive of Hammer Films

edited June 2014 in Hammer Films
I've had this in my amazon cart for a while and about to purchase a few copies of the hardback version; one to enjoy and two for gifts.
It looks wonderful. Does anyone own a copy of this art book? How would you rate it?

  • Some bloody nice posters inside that I could see:

  • I've not seen that. Thank you, David. The book repeatedly receives stellar reviews and that videos has sold me; so I'm going to make off with a few of them tonight.

It's apparently the only book on the subject and includes 300+ images from studios and private collections the world over. The only criticism I've heard is the book may omit some of the Italian and French pieces collectors love.
  • I'd be interesting to know (and see) what is considered the rarest of all the Hammer posters.

That would be Ari's collection of Hammer daybills...

The book is jollyfine, there are a lot of posters missing, but still worth buying, you won't be disappointed.

There's also one called The vault, which has a lot of items not posted before, mostly for us Hammer anoraks.... ;)

    :D

I believe Ari was even approached to contribute but he declined (for valid reasons)
  • Yes, I remember the people making the book wanted to use his posters and pay him next to nothing.
He properly gave 'em the boot.

I made a category for Hammer films...  And started a new thread for your posters!

See Matias' response.  Perhaps Ari will add more...

This is new, and very good news, to me. Thank you for the photo of other book and review.
Marcus Hearn was prodigious. I'm grateful someone assembled such a book. I decided on the three book package (The Art of Hammer, Vault, and Hammer Glamour) which saves a bit on the total as well as shipping for anyone without amazon prime.
  • Hammer Glamour is another jollyfine book, some great photos in it.
