    C131 Harold and Maude
Correct. Harold and Maude from 1971.

  • c132.  So I recognise Mary McDonnell and Alfi Woodard, so after a brief google, its Passion Fish, which I had never heard of, so looking forward to your thoughts and reasoning behind it being on this quiz :)
  • c132.  So I recognise Mary McDonnell and Alfi Woodard, so after a brief google, its Passion Fish, which I had never heard of, so looking forward to your thoughts and reasoning behind it being on this quiz :)
    Correct. Passion Fish from 1992.

Now to answer you question as to why this film appears on the quiz. Passion Fish is a beautifully filmed in Louisiana hidden gem. It is  a compassionate character study of two struggling with life women, and the friendship that they form, and how they turn their lives around for the better as a result of their friendship. The acting and telling of the story is first rate.

As in the case of my earlier presented Carol Reed film  Outcast Of The Islands, these excellent films shouldn't be excluded from the quiz because  they are little known. I viewed the film in the cinema and was hoping others may have done the same, or from possible later exposure from video, DVD and television screenings.

It sure is The Miracle Worker from 1962, and well spotted.

Winner of two Academy Awards in 1963. Anne Bancroft won in the Best Actress category and Patty Duke in the Best Supporting Actress category..

  • c134 Not Hell Drivers, so Wages of Fear?
  • I was going to guess Wages of Fear for 134

Both of you answered correctly. The Wages Of Fear being a French film from 1953.

  •  C135 C136

The above two new images shouldn't present any problems in identitying them.
  • C135.  A Matter of Life and Death
  • C135.  A Matter of Life and Death
Correct. A Matter Of Life And Death ( 1946 ). Another classic film from the team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger

The originaFBritish country of origin title was A Matter Of Life And Death.

The film was titled Stairway To Heaven on release in the U.S.A.  Interestingly the film didn't follow the usual pattern for British films to have the same title in Australia as the U.K.title. Instead they opted  for the more upbeat American release title instead.
  • C136 is The Gunfighter, but I'm not familiar with the film

Correct. The Gunfighter from 1950. Skip Homier and Karl Malden, who is seen standing behind the bar, are pictured in the featured scene.

The studio hated Gregory Peck's authentic period mustache. In fact, the head of production at Fox, Spyros P. Skouras, was out of town when production began. By the time he got back, so much of the film had been shot that it was too late to order Peck to shave it off and re-shoot. After the film did not do well at the box office, Skouras ran into Peck and he reportedly said, "That mustache cost us millions ( IMDb )

  • Ha, love the story about the 'stache!  Brilliant.  I haven't seen this one, not a huge fan of westerns...

  •  C137

     C138

One image should be easy enough to be identified, but perhaps the other one not so much.
  • Ha, love the story about the 'stache!  Brilliant.  I haven't seen this one, not a huge fan of westerns...
But it does have one of your favourites Gregory Peck as the lead.
  • C137 clue is that there has been a recent remake,

C138 clue is that the film is British made.
  •

C137 clue is a similar scene from the recent remake.

C138 clue is an additional scene from this classic British film.

  • Final clue for C137 is that there is a strong Australian connection in the recent remake of the film in question. And I had though that this one would have been answered quickly.

Final clues for C138 is firstly that the lead British actor in this film rated this as his favourite of all the films that he made during his illustrious career. Secondly the following image should help.

    C137 = Nightmare Alley (1947)

  • C137 = Nightmare Alley (1947)

Great to receive the correct answer. The remake was released in 2021.

  • As C138 has proven to be too difficult to identify, I will now reveal the answer to be Carol Reed's classic film Odd Man Out from 1947.
