Sunny And The Dark Horse ( 1987 ) Australian daybill, and a scene from the film.

This documentary film was shot and released on 16mm by Ronin Films. No distribution details found, and one has to imagine very little in the way of commercial screenings would have ocured  in Australia.
  •    ( both ozmovies )

    Pure S ( 1975 ) Australian promotional posters.

This film was shot on 16mm and  self distributed on this format. The film mainly was booked and screened on the indie, film society, co-op  and student circuits,

  •

Inland With McDouall Stuart ( 1956 ) extremely rare Australian film poster.

Film Poster: 'Inland with… - Australian & Colonial - Leski Auctions Pty. Ltd. - Antiques Reporter

Inland with McDouall Stuart (Short 1956) - IMDb

Apart from the  above Leski Auctions and the IMDb websites information, I couldn't locate any other details regarding this film.

  • Nice find!
  •

When the Kelly's Rode ( 1934 ) original daybill, followed by the 1948 re-release in Australia, daybill, except for N.S,W.,where it was first release after being originally banned  there.

      (John)

The design of the 1948 re-release daybill poste is the same as the design on the Pagets Talkies 1934 flyer and advertising brochure. More will follow about this at a later time. Before I do this though I would be interested in hearing anyone's comments?

  • I love the 1934 version. I have the 1948 re-release version - and it was one of the first posters I purchased from Col Porter..

  •  ( Ozmovies )

Jack & Jill : A Postscript ( 1970 ). A 16mm shot film transferred  to 35mm for theatrical screenings through Columbia Pictures., Limited screenings only in a few capitol cities as a  supporting feature, but mainly screened in art houses.

  • A rare 20th Century Fox  Movietone stock daybill poster titled Frontier Of The Future featuring Australian Miss Australia 1961 and  Miss International winner of 1962 Tania Verstak. Born in China to Russian parents, she was the first migrant to win the Miss Australia title.

It has been extremely frustrating in being able to find any information at all on this film. Finally though I have managed to establish the film was made by the Ford Motor Company for Movietone, and a copy exists today.

Tania Verstak received a Ford Falcon as a prize for winning the Miss Australia contest in 1961. Could there perhaps be a connection here?

A little bit of trivia. Appearing above is Nina Young and Mark Coles Smith in a scene from the hit 2022 Australian television series Mystery Road Origin. Nina Young is the actress daughter of Tania Verstak,
  • Some major classic Australian film titles from the 1930's in the pipeline.
  • Keep 'em coming!

  • Keep 'em coming!
Yes indeed. Some rare original daybill posters, including a few from the 1930's coming in the future.

  • A rare A Princess Comes To Australia ( 1959 ) Australian daybill. This 18 Minute documentary contains highlights of a visit by Princess Alexandra of Kent to Australia in 1959. Shots of the Princess dancing with a young Doug Anthony (later became Deputy Prime Minister) at a Gala function, and a visit to horse racing.

I have noticed two inaccuracies printed on the poster.

The poster has a D.O.I. Production credit appearing on it. The D.O.I. ( Or DOI ) is short for Department Of Information. The problem here is that the Department Of Information was formed in 1939, and was dissolved in 1950, nine years before the film was made and released in Australia. Thanks go to the Sydney office of NFSA ( National Film And Sound Archive Of Australia ) for some assistant. For the record the film was made by the Australian Commonwealth Film Unit.

The second error is that the Universal distributor credit showing on the poster is incorrect for that year. The film company in 1959 was credited as being Universal International

Thanks for commenting. Yes the long daybill is extremely rare. If a copy ever came up for sale it would certainly be priced in a high price range one would have to think.

Interestingly both of the Dad And Dave Come To Town  posters were printed  without Australian censorship ratings applied on them.

     ( Ozmovies / Trove )

The design that was used on the 1948 re-release poster is the same one that appears  on the 1934 flyer, and also the above first release newspaper advertisement. As well as the below 1934 daybill, there was also a second designed daybill that has the same design as the 1948 re-release, the original flyer and the  newspaper advertisement, I have sighted the second version daybill and can confirm its existance.,Hopefully I will be able to include an image of this poster here sometime in the future.

      ( John )

The original 1934 daybill.  and what the alternative design looks like.

That Man's Here Again ( 1937 ). A U.S.A. film starring Mary McGuire and Sensation( 1936 ) a British film with Margaret Vyner. Both Australian actresses, sometime after their The Flying Doctor roles, then headed overseas where they next made the above  films.

  • The following posting was included by me in error yesterday on the Rare Non Australian Posters Of Australian Films thread. This is where the posting belongs so I have now included it here as well.

A Nation Is Built ( 1938 ) film poster material is extremely hard to locate any material on. A full uncut version of the original  Australian daybill can be viewed on the attached NFSA link.
