  • Beat me by answering it by three minutes Bruce.

I watched the opening of the film on You tube earlier on. Peter's guess had got me thinking. i was going to answer but left it too late.

No actor's credit, but the poster only featues an image of the young Tarzan.
  • The reason I mentioned Stellan Windrow was because he was first contracted to play Tarzan, filmed some scenes, but then pulled out and was replaced by Elon, I mean, Elmo Lincoln. Some of his shots apparently remain in the film.

Some stories of the day and more info here:

  • Some very interesting information about Stellan Windrow. Thanks for sharing Peter.
  • A special mention regarding Lex Barker who played Tarzan on screen in five films between 1949 and 1953. He replaced Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan. He apparently appeared on The Merv Griffin Tarzan March 2, 1971 reunion programme, but no images of this appearance could be located.

He died from a heart attack just over two years later of the age of 54 in 1973. I mention this in case you may have been wondering why he wasn't at the Edgar Rice Burroughs 100th anniversary celebrations in 1975. I know that I was.

  • As previously mentioned in the past on the separate Tarzan RKO Series (1943-1955) Australian Daybills thread, I am still searching for a missing RKO Tarzan daybill image. Between 1943 and 1955 RKO released twelve Tarzan feature films. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have located a total of eleven of the twelve printed daybill images. There is still though one missing image that I would really like to obtain an image of.  If this was to take place it would then complete my RKO Tarzan daybill image collection. The missing title is Tarzan And The Amazon from 1946.

The following U.S.A. insert and 3 sheet images would be a good indication of what the Australian daybill most likely would look like. A very strong possibility the daybill would resemble either the insert or the 3 sheet mage.

If the  daybill ever appears it would be great for the image to be posted here. Certainly a long shot, but also either the Australian one sheet or three sheet images would be a bonus as well if they ever  happened to surface.l.

Three different Tarzan Escapes (1936) Australian stock daybill posters used for 1940's and 1950's re-release seasons.

A major mistake was made with the spelling applied as Johnnie, instead of using the correct spelling of Johnny on the first poster.

How could this have happened one has to seriously ponder?

Tarzan And His Mate (1934) foyer display at the Grand theatre in Perth Western Australia in 1934.

They certainly knew how to present a foyer display in the 1930s.

The advertised poster displayed in the foyer having artwork similar to this American 3 sheet.
  • Two rare re-release MGM 1960's film posters of Tarzan And The Leopard Woman (1946).

The following is the original American RKO one sheet artwork the Australian one sheet poster artist based his images on.

On the Australian one sheet Boy's face looks feminine to me, and one has to love the friendly looking panther? image.

The additional following daybill that was also produced for the 1960's re-release has an incorrect spelling of Woman in the film's title appearing as Women.

Typo on the daybill - should be Leopard Woman not Women
  • Thanks for responding John.
