edited July 2014 in Everything Else!
In your view what is currently the most popularly collected film or film series of all?

Is it James Bond? Star Wars? The Godfather? Jaws? Harry Potter? Metropolis? Dirty Harry? The Maltese Falcon..

  • Single film, I'm going to say Jaws, as for series, that depends on a lot, but Bond may just pip it...

Other titles are just too expensive for the average collector.
  • For series it has to be Star Wars with Bond second...

Single film is much more difficult but Star Wars Episode IV has to be close to #1 again...
  • I would go with bond from my observations.  Everyone love James Bond posters. Well, except me.  I do like the films though.
  • The thing with Bond as number one, is there are many more films, so collectors can start with cheaper posters and build, where Star wars is really limited to the first trilogy...
  • I like Bond films, not a massive fan compared to my fav....Clint, but there's only one James Bond and that's Sean Connery for me.
  • I agree, but my kids say the Connery Bonds are too slow moving.  No action.

    It is generational.
  • He's quick with the ladies though. ;)

Actually you make a good point. Cgi aka action is replacing screenwriters and good scripts.  :-q
  • I'd definitely agree with Star Wars for most popular franchise (over Bond), it is in itself a rolling marketing machine which really appeals to every new generation.

35 years since the film my view coheres with CSM's. The single film most popularly collected for is likely Star Wars IV: A New Hope. I don't know how it couldn't be. Most popularly collected over all series has to be Bond or Star Wars.

Would anyone disagree this is the most popularly sought and collected movie poster of all to date?

  • I think it would have to rate as the one title that is consistently sort after.
  • Put me also in the "does not collect bond posters" 3rd class seating
  • Mad Max & Back to the Future rate pretty high.

This has to be about perspective...

I wouldn't want that poster for Star Wars, (unless it was very cheap), but I have the Quad, both versions, and the Oscars version 3 copies of... I'm sure Chris would take the daybill over it also.

Now, World Wide, I read that the most collected movie Icon is............Godzilla!  Where's Sean when you need him..  So I guess we all just go off what we see in our own little worlds, however what we can agree on is that Star Wars, and Bond will always be very collectable...   Edit:-  in our life-times.
  • Veggie Tales pips 'em all. :ar!

Seriously though, I think the original Star Wars trilogy is the ticket but could be edged out over time by the Marvel franchise.
Bond is avidly sought after by some, but not nearly as many as either of SW or Marvel.
    So there...

  • (laughing)
So cute, Brude! Yes, hands down the most popular poster for sea bound vegetarians under 7.
I actually came very close to having to see that with the little ones back in 2008 or so. Thank goodness they chose Kung Fu Panda that day, instead! I love Po Panda.

    Too true.

Well said and applicable to most everything we consider. We forever allow our own, very limited, immediate (and generationally skewed) perceptions to shape our view of near everything - which hopefully leads us to the lesson and beauty of objective, critical thinking; a lesson I love and still learning.
