I am small potatoes but I dont see any reason to out an auction. We will still think you are a fucking genius if you post the find that you are NOT interested in bidding on til after siad auction is over.
NONE.
So much fucking bullshit about something that is so fucking obvious.
I think there maybe some truth to this Argentinean Jebus, as Matias not only has saved me a fortune by not outing an auction he emailed me, but presented me with the opportunity of buying one of the best posters in my collection...
Thanks Matias, a true friend and Gent.
Oh, no need to thank Paul. As I've said many times the world gets better everytime a poster finds the collection it belongs to.
I do think on here it's down to the fact we have a lot of the collectors who do their own research, chasing, digging whatever you want to call it, and because of that have a better etiquette when to comes to letting others know. I find that the newer collectors want that easy ride, so any outing is great for them. Also maybe there is too many dealers who voted on APF. It would be interesting to take them out of the equation and see the results.
For a Dealer, outing is a win/win situation, if they are not getting their own prices pushed up, the fact the poster goes for more, only means future sales will also command a higher price..
We can't see who voted for what in APF, we can here so I don't know whether it is a dealer driven in APF, and if it was then of course they are entitled to vote that way.
I think outing, for the most part, has its effect with newer collectors as others have noted. People that are seasoned are going to find their stuff. New ones ride the coattails. Then again, I would have missed a few things had it not been for others telling me, and I have picked up a few things that would have gone sky high had others known about it. It's all over the place.
I think the worst comment I have read was the one where once the price got past a person's limit that was the point that person thought "feck it, I'll tell everyone now" - if that is true then that is a sad indictment on a reason to out an auction.
The poll is rather different here than on APF. I suspect that the fact that it is not a secret ballot has also made a difference. That said I didn't change my vote. For me the key issue is about allowing free exchange of information. But fully understand that it can upset others and therefore it could overall have a detrimental impact on fellow collectors. So mine is a yes in principle. .and a no in practice. I can appreciate that it should not be abused or misused.
Outing auctions when someone is selling fakes is a good thing. And not just beneficial for the newbies but good for the hobby itself.
The Noes have the vote here. And I am of course more than happy for it.
Click.
Outing an auction, in my opinion, can really harm a member's goal. What if a member has been looking for a poster for a long time, with a finite budget, only to be outbid by another member seeing it after someone outed it? What a kicker. Plus, there are more lurkers than members, so it might not be a member who outbids you but a crafty lurker.
It has never happened to me, but boy would I be upset if it did.
If you're going to out something, out it privately to another member; not publicly for the world to see.

Interesting.... I wonder what accounts for that.
