Washing with OrvusAfter a few more tries I decided to give one of my favorite posters a try. But only because I saw another up for auction and I figured if I botched the job, I could just buy it again. This was fairly easy now that I have some of the fundamentals dow…Here is an example of a one panel as I was bleaching it. The whole thing was a bust because I thought that the bleach would take care of some writing that the poster had on back, but it didn't. I bleached it really well and it looked great when it w…Was an ok start, I learned a good deal about wheat paste, masa, working with wet paper, mylar sheets and the problems with mounting and braying, air pockets and wrinkles. Here is an example of poorly laid masa causing wrinklesThe first poster was this pretty damaged one sheet. It had tears at the fold lines and was almost completely in separate pieces, some stains and a snipe.

…You got it bud. I'l make a thread when I get off of work on the poster that I worked on this last weekend. Its the only one I have taken pictured on from start to finish.Ive been reading up on Calcium Hypochlorite as an alternative to Chloromine T, but it seems like a pretty serious chemical. How hard / dangerous is it to work with and is it easy to obtain locally? Talas has to ship it as hazardous material.Really nice. Some great looking posters there and a great story, congrats on what sounded like a great time...and meeting Paul Schrader. His book Transcendental Style in Film: Ozu, Bresson, Dreyer has long been of my favorite books on film.
i do now, with a wet sponge but I learned the hard way. Wasted some masa too. I didn't now what to expect at first, but I quickly learned it's much easier to work with wet paper instead of dry or moist. You're right, it did give me fits and was …Still wet, tried to embed a picture. Didn't workI'm finding out bleaching can be really hard depending on the paper, all the one sheets I have done have really been difficult, I washed a french one panel and it was magical, bright and clean.Still learning. Worked pretty much most of the day but realized my previous mistakes in laying the masa. You need to make sure it's got a good amount of paste, not enough and the paper curls up on you, thus causing wrinkles and air pockets.Hi David, Im sure you've heard it before an you don't need to hear it again from me, but god dayum that's a hell of a collection you have! Thanks. I haven't tried anything good yet with lots of color, still trying to work the solution and get an ideal mix. I'm finding, it's all a matter of time.Criterion released a great transfer recently. Recommended if you can get a chance to give it a viewing. Warning, you may be depressed for a couple days after.Yeah, they usually burnish out pretty well. I guess I just assumed it would lay flat pretty easily. I'm finding mounting is the hardest part. Much harder than wet work, that's just babysitting. But a bad mount destroys all your hard work. Then aga…Sounds like it's not worth the trouble. Note to self. Don't buy anything with pen ink on it.Anybody know of any methods to remove pen ink? I have some white posters with writing on the back. I thought bleaching might do the trick, but it didnt. Any other ideas, or are these things permanent? My favorite purchase this month. I'm a sucker for Eastern European posters and Lars Von Trier.
When you did use Chloramine T for bleaching. What was the ratio you used for you solution? The most I have used, and has been the best was 20 teaspoons to 1 liter of water, only problem is everything smelled like bleach for the rest of the day even…Do you guys get the masa perfectly smooth on the canvas before mounting the poster? I can't seem to get it smooth no matter what I do, there are always wrinkles and air pockets. Once I mount the poster, I use a squeegee to smooth it out over a My…Works great now..Thanks, Matt!Sorry to sound like a dolt here, but I only seem to have access to two categories if I'm logged in. Also, I'm not permissions to update my avatar. Is this working as designed? I was interested in discussing some topics under the restoration categ…Hi Matt,
So as far as particular I'd say so far its been Eastern European and Saul Bass designs. But my primary interests are with directors / films.
