I just tested your photobucket. It really is quite simple. All you have to do is have the image in front of you, right click (a menu will pop up) select "copy url"... Come back here hit the document icon and paste into the space...
I have tried it that way and nothing, the drop down box just stays there, and won't post the pic to the comment box. and I was using the direct link at that time, as said before...
The only reason it would stay there is if you have either copied the incorrect image link or not all of it (and therefore does not recognise the code you are pasting as a link to an image)
I've copied all 3 codes from the Bucket, and none work in the drop-down box. Believe me, I had 45 mins at it the other day, and nothing works at all. I then went on two other sites and posted pics with no problems.
I'm just about to try on another computer.......Stand by.
Think of it this way: If you only wanted to paste a partial web address and then edit it - say if your photos were by number - if it auto inserted, then you would never get the chance to change the address. But by pushing the spacebar you are telling the software "that is the end of the address"... I guess it understand a cmd v as being a quick function and not in need of editing??? Adapt and overcome.

I copied the URL of his Pirates of Blood River, pasted it into the "image URL" drop down & no image placement.

If you copy the second one into the little paper drop down above it should work.
Here is the process in image form

What browser are you using Paul...

It still would not let me post in the drop down box, but will with the cmd, V buttons...?
It seems like the cmd, and V buttons work, but it still will not work with copy and paste in the drop down box..
I'm off to try on the upstairs computer now.
Works up here too, unreal... What a Carry on.
Looks like cmd V don't work up here
Nop..
Spacebar, good.
Carry on then...
