The Beach Boys Performances Deleted

edited August 2015 in Australian

 Teenage Command Performance ( aka  The T.A.M.I Show ) ( 1964 )

T.A.M.I. Show is a 1964 concert film released in the U.S.A. by American International Films. On the Australian daybill titled Teenage Command Performance  the billing for The Beach Boys has been crossed out. Due to a legal rights dispute, The Beach Boys footage was deleted from all prints after the initial theatrical run, though they can still be seen on stage with the other performers during the finals. The film took a while to reach our shores  and with  this being 1966, apparently sometime after the daybill was printed the name deletion occurred. It would appear nobody here in Australia would have seen The Beach Boys individual performance/s in the film.

Interestingly the image of The Beach Boys remains on the poster.

Comments

  • The Beach Boys name wasn't blacked out on all daybills..

  • What was "Electronovision"?

Love the image of the Stones! they look so peaceful...:innocent:
  • This is going to be another unsolved mystery I feel. Questions arise as to when did the alterations happen? Was it into the screening of the film in Australia so only daybills still in the Paramount offices at the time were altered and also did audiences early on see The Beach Boys footage until  edited copies of the film replaced them? I had read somewhere that all the legal problems occurred a couple of years later which is around the time the film was released in Australia. Your copy John looks unused so perhaps it came from the Paramount vaults and only copies were altered when being issued.
  • I also have this poster and the Beach Boys aren't blacked out
  • Two questions being are you referring to the name and secondly  what condition is your poster in?
  • The one I have has been used, pinholes in the borders - came from a cinema in Brisbane.
  • This certainly is an interesting topic which I will delve into further.
  • You are assuming it was done by the theatre...could have been by someone who was bored in the lobby that is not a fan of the band...I have a few daybills with interesting additions that were done by idle hands.
  • I was thinking the distributor was the instigator. I have sighted the one I posted the image of with the deletion and the one John included here without the crossing out making only two viewed so far.I would like to see other images from other sources to see if are intact or have The Beach Boys names crossed out.

One passed through my hand I think 2 years ago, was in near perfect condition with no 'censoring' that I can remember, came from a NSW collection (a relative of a relative) - I can't seem to find the image, I suspect it's on my back-up drive which I may get to unpack one day if I am lucky...
