Before I reply to your questions would you please advise roughly what decades the pressbooks come from?
Ignore this goofball...
I've started a thread for you. Someone else you may want to talk to is Bruce another member here. He has a huge collection of pressbooks maybe even larger than yours...
My pressbooks come from ther 1920's through the early 80's when they stopped producing them and the theater chains did their own advertising. My collection has the most pressbooks from the 70's and as you go back each decade, there are less in each decade, but I am trying to fill in now. I probably have most 60's and 70's movies, and probably 70% of the 50's, but I only have about 1,500 from the 30's and 40's so far.

I have corresponded with Rob. He is a great guy, and shares my love of pressbooks!

Hi everyone, I'm Neil. You guys have some truly amazing posters.
I'm a Scot that's grown up in Asia. And while I love all movies and the art surrounding them, one particular film has always stood out for me - Katsuhiro Otomo's 'Akira'.
One of the nice things about being a huge fan of an animated film is that, aside from collecting posters and other memorabilia, it's possible to collect pieces of the film itself. Akira's animation in particular always blew me away and I've become a passionate collector of sketches and cels from the film, as well as far rarer key master set-ups, comprising entire shots, inclusive of hand painted backgrounds and up to seven cels.
Appreciate this isn't an exact fit for this site, but I thought that the similarities might make my collection of interest. If it's OK, I'll share some picture of ten of the best pieces in my collection that I've just had framed.
Welcome S 28, certainly would like to see what you have sounds most intriguing. You can start a thread of your own, and post away.. Looking forward to it.
Akira has quite a strong cult following and is generally regarded as one of if not the most impressive examples of traditional cel animation. This is due to the fanatical level of detail applied to the cels and backgrounds and the fact that the film runs at 24 frames per second instead of the usual 12.
The film is also credited with being the catalyst for anime's popularity in the west. And often features in lists of best animated feature films and Sci fi films of all time. So the animation art used in its creation is highly sought after.
There are usually a few cels available on ebay at any one time. But complete set ups with the original backgrounds are exceedingly rare. I've only seen two on eBay in 15 years of checking daily.
Fun fact: The lead animator on Akira went on to become the lead animator at Studio Ghibli, creating well known films like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.
Hey everyone, names Ryan, just became interested and started researching movie posters. Haven't even purchased my first one yet but i like the more bizarre and interesting types. The poster that sparked my interest i saw on TV called "Frankenstein meets the space monster"
I also love all the 007 posters and pretty much open to any collecting advice or just any basic knowledge really. Thanks!
Welcome Ryan 2.0, jump on in and find yourself a corner and start yelling out questions, someone here is bound to know the answer, and if we don't then we'll simply make it up as we go along.
Hi guys, I already posted my problem a few months ago but I'm still having the same problem. I can't upload any of my pictures. The icon 'attach image' just doesn't work for me. I have a small collection I've build up in the last 6 months and I really wanna share it with u guys. ANY ideas to solve this problem? I've tried 3 chrome, firefox, safari and explorer and I continue to have this problem. Benjamin

I confess I own not a single pressbook, but love looking thru Bruce's archive of his hundreds of PB's. Really looking forward to seeing some of yours!
Indeed!

Over 14,000 pressbooks, that's amazing!
Just amazing and such a special part of movie history you have. Look forward to you sharing both you collection and your knowledge.

Nice to meet you all.
I've always thought I've wanted to buy some Disney cells/storyboard artwork...
have never heard of Akira, but your collection sounds very cool, post away-would enjoy seeing what they look like.
So the Akira collecting community, is it large?
