Halloween pics anyone?

Had about 100 trick or treaters and ran out of candy…

Happy Halloween!

For 25 years I have given out full-size candy bars, and it has become an annual tradition, with parents who came when they were kids coming back with their own kids! We used to give out 300 or so (not bad in a town of 12,000), but two years ago we set our all time record of 1,500!

Last year it was cancelled due to COVID, and this year the forecast was for perfect weather. I got a story about it on local radio (and their website) plus my posts about it on Facebook were shared over 1,000 times!

We had a line to the street and down the block from 4 PM when we started until 7 PM,, and then it slowed down, but only a little. I had bought 1,950 full-size bars, plus 100 giant ones for relatives and employees, and when we stopped at 8 PM we have given out 1,900 (give or take a few), and 60 giant ones!

I gave the last 50 regular ones to a group of 4 boys who were there at 8, and will have to figure out what to do with the 40 giant ones left!

Complicating this was my 22nd Annual Halloween Auction was closing, but that set records too, with 806 buyers, and $516,000 in sales!

  • That is a heck of a financial commitment to Halloween! Love the tradition…

Money was made to be spent, and used to make people happy. If more billionaires realized that, the world would be far better place.

Most of those people with one billion are scheming how to get to two, and so on. They act like they CAN take it with them.

  • Well said Bruce.
Here are my grandchildren getting in the swing of things.

May be an image of 1 person child standing and outdoors

THAT is true "wealth"! It has been many years since I had children that age, and I think about how wonderful it was all the time!

  • Great subject and pics, Charlie! We had a Halloween party on Saturday which we pretty heavily decorated for, so I'll have to see what kind of pics the mrs has and make a follow up post.

Bruce, that's an awesome tradition and a great story! You are truly a blessing to your community, employees and most certainly your family.

That's a great picture, Rick! Cuteness times 1000!
  • Great Halloween pictures, Charlie, Bruce, and Rick!  My wife and I stayed home and watched the original Ghostbusters, and I bid in Bruce's Halloween auction and won two.  Now, I'm trying to figure out should I drive to West Plains again this month on my way to Oklahoma?!  It sure was good seeing you Bruce at the end of September!  I'll post a professional pic with Bruce when I'm on my computer.  Okie
  • They are both very cute! That baby pumpkin suit is adorable
