Grandfather was a projectionist, built his house circa 1940s, threw some used rubbish posters he had lying around under the floorboards to insulate the house.

Grandfather died, house is just now being renovated, up came the floorboards, out came a small pile of posters, most worth nothing or less - except there was this Wizard of Oz poster.

    BTW - that's not Toto.
Thanks David.  Has this poster been consigned (or still held by the seller/owner) or did you acquire it?  Just wondering how you were privileged enough to snap the pic ;)
  • It's in my house (on the floor or chucked in a corner somewhere ;) ), the owner contacted me with a list of posters they had and did I want to buy them - they are not a collector and had no idea what they were worth. Most were in really bad condition or nothing special ($29 retail prices) and unfortunately many were in such bad condition some were worth a lot less than that, but there was this one poster...so I rang and told them I may have some good news...

I suggested rather than me buying it they might like to auction it instead, they would likely get more - I suggested they send it to me so I could photograph it, grade it,market it etc etc - the rest is as written. If it sells I will send it to the winner on their behalf (cause I know how to pack etc) if it doesn't sell I'll send it back and/or discuss with them what they want to do.

However, the reserve is well within reason, I gave them the ball park range I thought it might sell for, they set the reserve below my low price - so I have no doubt it'll sell.
  • Thanks David...seems like a commendable arrangement on your part
  • Thanks Chris, not sure if I'd call it 'commendable' just helping.
  • Jackpot!!!!
  • Jackpot?
  • I will not be bidding but a $6,000 AUD reserve sure seems reasonable to me!

Where you get that figure from?
  • Oh I see now, My bad.
  • While it's great to see some nice poster imagery - whoever the seller JLG is is, unfortunately, way out to lunch on pricing
  • and dinner...

    Smartass.

I will be there 100% if I am not here running the final checks (in case I sleep in when it all starts).

I even bought a Blue-Ray player for my computer so I could watch it on one screen with one eye on the other - provided both screens are not in use!
  • Cool..

Rick knows that I'm just stirring the pot.
    :P

That's it my work is done - all checked, and cross checked, I've just finished loading the last ones and even in those last few there were quite a few very nice ones I must say. There is some 335 original movie posters for you to enjoy.

I have watched a hell of a lot of movie trailers (because a lot of the listings have the original movie trailer for you to watch) and I can safely say my movie list has expanded, not just the international stuff but there is a lot of Australian movies that really deserves a look.

I also want to say a big thanks to all the consignors (I won't mention them all by name), they're all Aussie based and have really supported this event, more so for what it is about: Australian produced movie posters AND movie posters for AUSTRALIAN MOVIES - in fact more than half of the posters (of the 335) in this Australia Day auction are actually for Australian movies, and that is pretty amazing (and what it was all about).

I do have to give a special thanks to John Reid and Phil Edwards, both of whom have really offered a lot of advice, suggestions and of course ultimately their support, without it this may have never happened.

So of course, whatever happens is out of my hands, but getting this many pieces together, some exceedingly rare, has made this event a success no matter what the numbers come out like at the end.

So, if you are not bidding but know someone who might like to, send them along; but if you are bidding, good luck, Bid Well...

    BIDLL!
  • Wishing you all the best for the auction David!
  • Agreed, much success!
