Phew, that was hard work... but very enjoyable!

    Hope you enjoy!

Thanks Vesna - great work and much appreciated.Great to see the images and M & C is Marchant  & Co They credited themselves  as M & C only on some daybills around the mid 1940's.Of the images you posted for whatever reason.I fancy the So Big design. The red background is striking

    Hondo.

  • I have recently posted that Marchant & Co. had printed full colour daybills of 1944 US released titles released in Australia as late as 1945. With Vesna's Bud Abbott And Lou Costello In Hollywood image turning up I need to update our Marchant & Co, history. The film  was released in the US on the 5th October, 1945 but only released in Australia on the 22nd March,1946.

    To sum up -

Full colour daybills  have  at present time the last known examples released in Australia in 1945 with the full printers information appearing on the posters..

Full colour daybills with the M & C only appearing on the poster there are two examples of  films being released in Australia in 1945 but the last example is  of a film released in Australia in 1946.

Duotone daybills  with the full printer's name appearing on the poster has the last daybill of a film falling in this category released in Australia in 1949.

If and when any other examples turn up I will update my findings.

  • Suddenly dawned on me to look at the poster on the wall behind me, sure enough:

  • They are gorgeous...one day when I am rich...

Love the Red Mark...one of my favourite long daybills.  One of the posters buried in my pile.

Obviously I need to get it out and up on the wall!

  • Excellent examples of Marchant posters David!
  • Now the original colour version.

Two Marchant & Co.duotone daybill images where I have never sighted  colour versions. The colour versions will most likely have been printed by a different printer.

Her Majesty And The Bellboy ( 1945 ) images . The duotone is Marchant & Co as far as I can make out and the colour daybill was printed by Offset Printers, Sydney.  The Marchant duotone image courtesy of eMovieposter.com. This is just an example of Marchant & Co .concentrating mainly on producing duotone daybills from the mid 1940's to the end of the decade.

  • Flame of Life is beautiful...you know where it will get a good home if you ever want to part with it!
  • A rare wartime 1944 10 x 30 daybill that is hard to read the printer's details but I am pretty sure it is Marchant & Co. Not a well known title but a record of a rare Marchant 10 x 30 poster.
