It's the certificate Lawrence, it says British board of film censors, and has "U certificate" in the center.
Thanks Paul for that. I couldn't make it out. The ''U'' certificate on later posters just had the ''U'' within a circle appearing on the posters didn't they. When did the format change and do you know when?
I love the classics (especially the 1934 Babes in Toyland/March of the Wooden Soldiers with Stan and Ollie) but, A Christmas Story is my all-time favorite Christmas movie. Now, one of these days I need to add a poster to my collection.

There wasn't a particular date, I'm guessing it was done over a couple of years, as I've seen posters up to 1953 with it still, which surprised me...
