That is one of the hand lithos. As I said they used two separate printing processes.

    Playing the Devil's Advocate -
    1. There is absolutely no logic to do what was essentially short print runs for one poster in two different print styles on different machines
    2. Re #1: That may be true but they did have two branches - one in Melb and the other Sydney, perhaps there were different print process machines at the different branches.
    3. Re #2 Perhaps there are two different print styles because of an extended season? Or perhaps of the delayed film release in the other states. When was the releases by state and how long was the season?
    4. Re #3 If so, which poster came first?

I don't really understand what you are asking. I think you might have misunderstood me. I am not saying they produced two different styles of poster for each film. What I am saying is that Hackett did not always use the same printing process - for some films they used purely hand lithos and for others a combination of hand litho and photo litho. Of the 40 or so posters I have, there about half of each type. I haven't checked the dates of the posters so not sure if the photo lithos were printed during a set period.
  • As per my link above (to HA sales here) - there is only one poster that I can definitely make out as the photo litho style, the others I can't see well enough - are you saying all the posters in that link are the photo litho style?

If yes then my post that you are asking about is redundant of course.

My understanding is that Heritage have had three separate long daybills for GWTW. I think one was listed in two separate auctions.

You are asking if all are the photo litho style. Is there any reason to doubt that any of them are not photo lithos?

  • Yes I figured one was a relist.

No, I have no reason to doubt they are not all photo litho style, I only said I can't see if they are.

Reg I am happy to do my homework, I even regularly try to contribute to the homework pool along with others, but it seems to me you are only happy to accept the results only if it suits you.

David, I think you have clearly missed my point and have taken things personal now. When have I questioned your contribution? Accepting results when it suits me? Could you please expand/elaborate on this comment.

I have seen miss-dated dated posters just like you, and like you I see sellers trying to put one over people too with BS dates too so I don't give a flying fig if you (or others) don't like me throwing down a question about a poster if I have a question about it. Telling me to shut up and go away will get you no where, you should know that by now.

I'm not sure where dates in regards of posters came into the topic in question. Sure you don't give a flying fig. That's right because you did do exactly that, threw down question(s) that did not need to be thrown, you clearly jumped the gun alright. Where did I tell you to shut up and go away?

This is a forum for an exchange of ideas and theories, a place to disseminate information to improve the lot of collectors in general. Sure, I may ask stupid questions, probably because I am just not that smart, but I'll keep asking them if it gets people talking to help solidify the information. There are people with a lot of knowledge but there is some with knowledge that is also based on flawed facts that is simply regurgitated as the truth because no one dares question it.

Obviously we exchange ideas, theories and opinions etc etc. Thats why were here mate but throwing down some of the questions you did are not right. It certainly did not need to be thrown when there was absolutely no reason to. In doing so you could have cast doubt on collectors that may be seeking to buy a copy of the poster in question. Not only that there are a few collectors on this forum who have a copy of the poster in question, you could have offended them. Yes we all want to be 100% sure in finding the truth within this hobby of ours but sometimes we need to be very careful in what we speculate.

From the day this forum started 'Dating the...' section has unearthed many a poster that has been miss-dated for many years by supposed experts with years and years of expertise, buggered if I am going to roll over and accept carte blanche what they say just because they say it. And sure you may think this sort of theorising is bad for the hobby but this is a member's only area so hopefully members much smarter than me will discuss these things out for the betterment of the hobby.

Again, where did dating of posters come into the topic in question is puzzling. You do a great job in dating posters, no one has doubted you on that mate. Theorising in the hobby is beneficial no doubt about it but not as you did when you start questioning the authenticity of a poster(s) when it didn't need to be. Sorry David, but your not going to win votes with this one. Also if you still have any doubts in your mind about the Gone with the wind db I'm happy to get mine out from storage together with another hackett offsett print db and can take some photos for you.

I'm married, I've learned to not mind being wrong.

    Sound like a wise man.

  • I can't be bothered...you win.
  • That's what I thought. :)
  • Now shake hands you two :) We're one big happy collecting family >:D<

If you are saying this could be a commemorative release poster and not from the original release, I'm thinking wouldn't there be a fair few more of these out there then...or is everyone holding on to theirs and drip feeding them out to fool us all!  bastards!

Not at all, I also concede that that style print was a Hackett style print back then.
