What movie is this poster from?

I've had the poster before and for the life of me I can't find what I had on it.

No idea about the date or original title of the movie. Anyone?

  • This is a possible one

Maurice loves Juliet and Michael loves Lily. Romance blossoms on the hill. They are workers, artisans, and Lily has a real talent as a singer. But Claude's arrival brings trouble to their relationships. Maurice, jealous, approaches Lily. Singing in the streets, Lily quickly becomes a cabaret star.
  • You might have nailed it my friend

    As did you Matais...  =P~
  • Found it!  Doesn't appear to be that one Chris (Matais was on the right track...in more ways than one). It's a 40min doco, from the same year:

See below, highlighted in green, note the same bi-line as the Daybill.

  • The queen enjoyed belly dancers?? That is outrageous!!
  • It is now  established Montmartre is the Australian release title for Montmartre Nocturne.

A couple of interesting things I would like to point out.

The advertisement for the film that appeared in the 8 / 3 / 1954 edition of The Argus newspaper from Melbourne  mentions two things of interest. It states ''The full length version '' & also ''Adults only''. The daybill has only a rating of Not Suitable For Children on it. Not suggesting anything only pointing out the facts.

The other thing of interest is that the cinematography was by the great Jack Cardiff himself.

Ummm is that not the exact same one I posted?

    @Hondo
The IMDB lists it as a 24 minute movie whereas the advert I posted above states it is a 40 minute showing

Ummm, yes you are right, too many links - I should have said Matais has the wrong link (but a nicer poster)

The below is an original daybill produced for the Australian release in Australia in 1953 of the main attraction  Les Belles De Nuit  Two things of interest. Gina Lollobrigida, Gerard Philipe & Martine Carol billed in that order on the daybill poster yet on the newspaper advertising it is Gerard Philipe, Martine Carol then Gina Lollobrigida. The other point is that on the daybill it is classified For General Exhibition but Suitable For Adults Only on the newspaper advertisement.

  • The sight of Gina Lollobrigida would have caused a few kids to grow up pretty quick
  • Couldn't resist in saying this. The version of Les Belles De Nuit would have been the For General Exhibition version.
