Nice price for the consignor

image
This just sold on emovieposter for $649A. I won the same thing in perfect condition on eBay a year or two back for somewhat less!

  • Amazing price and well done rick
  • Sadly I wasn't the consignor, though I'd be tempted to sell my copy if someone wanted to offer that much.
Impossible Years at $149US is another nice price
  • What. The. Fuck. ?!
  • A comment about the Genevieve daybill just sold. It is a  re-release poster where  Kenneth More has been promoted from 4th billing to top billing. Poor image likenesses  of John Gregson and Dinah Sheridan. Compare the same image on the original W.E.Smith. It had to be the vintage car that was the attraction. Really unbelievable price for this reissue.

Yeah, I couldn't believe the price on Impossible years...the hunt continues!

Dag nab it...another one I need to keep looking for now!
  • I had a spare Impossible Years one sheet, think I sold it well below $149US, but then I think I paid less than $50 for that
    Genevieve.

  • Saw the price, fainted...
  • I sold one for 50.00 about six months ago.
  • Good call on the re-release Lawrence - I had no idea there were two

    There are actually four.

Will post the other two images when I am able to as maintenance is happening at present on my image hosting website so I am unable to do so.

  • With the auction just completed it appears there was a two person bidding war happening to be able to get their hands on Genevieve at all cost and it did cost.

Trust me there isn't anything to worry about. You will see for yourself when you get to see the images.

  • Just looking at those images, this might be a case where the re-release is nicer than the original
  • Yes it is...but not $600 more IMHO
  • Nah, I think the original is nicer...at least that will be two less people bidding against me!

  • Feast your eyes on these.

I've got what I believe to be the same original release specimen, however mine doesn't have the 'for general admission' red triangle lower left.

  • NZ Daybill

For sure. I am also wondering if a wrong censorship rating had been printed on the poster, then was poorly covered up and some of the original light green background also covered with the oddly shaped light yellow section. The section doesn't look too bad with the Australian For General Exhibition rating covering some of it but not so good on the New Zealand version. What do others think ?

I'm currently having the foxing removed followed by linen backing. As for the yellow 'patch', yes rather unsightly, a pitty whoever carried out the cover up didn't take greater effort to match the green.
  • Then again it appears as if it always had a yellow base then the green wash was loosely applied round the area to be left for the ratings decal (the red would have always looked far more effective on yellow than green).
  • One does feel something else was planned for that space.

Love the movie, adore the poster!

    Agree with David...

  • Whilst we're bringing attention to W.E.Smith's superior work, I just dug out these two.

Actually five! EMP has an example of each on their history page. The one not shown on this thread is actually a hybrid of the original (colour scheme and credit order) and re-release (artwork/portraits lower right). Very puzzling as it was sold as and original release? When it must be later. I can see how some people would think that and not notice the lesser quality portraits.

Was going to post an image but not sure of protocol regarding using someone else's images/property.

May be a Bruce ask to pop it on. It sold on:
    Sold:6/9/2016
    Sold For:$162.00
  • Then again we should really call it Six versions what with my (no ratings) NZ one.

  • I must be seeing things as there are only four versions, not five ( or six as we don't count versions without ratings appearing ). The above version you are referring to is the same as the one I posted previously on the last page. What do others think?
