It must be super hard for you to not make them too easy, while also not making them too hard!

Thanks for your insightful reply Bruce, It is indeed a juggling act to present the right balance of images each time that aren't too obvious at first glace, but with some later clues are able to be solved.

Appropriate clues can be difficult at times to come up with, I do like the theme related posters groupings that I have now adapted with most of the quiz entries that I include here on the forum these days.

I am very interested in also hearing from anyone else with their thoughts, but particularly Wil, Jay, Dede and Ves,

  • Yeah,  war films not really my forte.

Thanks Jay for your honest answer.
  • I wish I could contribute more but it's probably the more well known films I'd recognise.

Thanks Peter for your reply. It would certainly appear now to me that my last batch were far too obscure to be recognised, or to work out the answers for.

If and when I decide to bring this quiz back the entries will then be only of well known films..
  • If only I had more knowledge of older films, my tastes vary but I'm finding that even in my 60s I'm still catching up with classic films. My appetite is voracious but there's only so many hours in a week that I can watch films. My current obsession is pre-code Hollywood (and anything silent), but there's still major classic Hollywood films I'm catching up on. Just this weekend I watched (for the first time), From Here To Eternity and The Last Picture Show. There is so much being restored on BluRay and 4K nowadays that I feel like I've died and gone to cinema heaven!

  • Very pleasing Peter that you are catching up with older classic films. From Here To Eternity and The Last Picture Show were great films that you chose to view.

I could recommend some of my favourtite classic films, but you possibly would have seen some of them.

You also mentioned silent film so I will say my favourite silent is The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari from 1920.. It is such a great film . I viewed it on 16mm at the film society that I was involved in many years ago, and some of the imagery has remained with me. all these years.

I actually consider those two titles 'newer' classic films! Most of my preferred viewing is from the 20s, 30s & 40s. I grew up on a diet of B&W films on weekend TV. I'll push Caligari to the top of my viewing list, I've had the BluRay for ages now but still working through many other silent films.

Happy to get recommendations for films to watch any time.

Caligari would be one of my favourite films of all time.  I never get sick of watching it.  I second Lawrence's recommendation with gusto!
  • War films would be a close second to westerns that I rarely watch, so as I've said before...I am limited to what I can contribute...having said that, Life has been jam packed for me these past months so while I might check in to the forum from time to time, I have very little spare time to spend of late.

It is great to have you comment whenever time permits you to do so.
  • A big thank you to all those members who commented on their thinking about this quiz. The majority of those members who have contributed to this quiz have indicated that they do struggle with this genre of film.

What I do find very interesting though is that this quiz has had 15.5K views compared to the popular Actresses Leg Quiz with a lesser 15.4K views, Both the two quizzes have currently the same 1,5K comments as each other.

The total number of members that do view this quiz does indicate to me that there are still many non contributing members who do regularly view (and hopefully enjoy) this quiz, For anyone who falls into this category it would be pleasing if you would advise me of this.

If I do decide to bring back the War quiz in the future it would consist of only images sourced from very well known films, with more hopefully recognisable images.

Any and all feedback is most welcomed.
  • Just don't make it too easy!

  • For me, I watch all kinds of movies, but for war (and western) I ONLY watch really great ones, so if it is a minor movie I have a chance with other genres, but almost no chance with war (or western).

My big problem here is thinking as to what is probably too easy. Just because I may have seen a well known classic war film it doesn't necessarily mean that others have also done the same.

It is a real balancing act to continually present images that aren't too easy, or too hard. that even clues I provide don't always assist in solving the answer.

I won't let this one defeat me so more to follow soon. I'll work on presenting some images that hopefully will be able to be recognised, so therefore allowing them to be answered.
  • A couple of images included here as a trial run of using only well known war film images . I am thinking that they shouldn't present a problem in identifying, but one never knows.

Correct also. The Guns Of Navarone from 1961.

I got the trial images selection right. Quick work in receiving the answers.

Some serious thinking though to be done for the nest batch.

  • For the record I have just realised that the recently included 419 image of The Guns Of Navarone I had included here on this thread in the past, Somehow I missed picking up on this fact..
  •  421 422
Two more images to test the waters before I make a decision as if to bring back this quiz or not.

  • C421 is Heartbreak Ridge

    Correct. Heartbreak Ridge from 1986.

422 is indeed Hacksaw Ridge from 2016.

So far so good. Let's now see how these two new images fare then?
