A Chronology of Lana Turner Movie Posters 1938-1966.

Lana Turner (1921-1995) was born 'Julia Jean Mildred Frances Turner' in Wallace, Idaho.

As a young actress she was nicknamed 'The Sweater Girl'.

Lana was Oscar nominated once, forPeyton Place (1957).

Her ancestry was a mixture of Scottish, Irish, English and Dutch.

None of her seven marriages lasted more than 5 years, she was married to Tarzan actor Lex Barker from 1953 to 1957.

It was her relationship with gangster Johnny Stompanato which made headline news the world over. On 4th of April 1958 Lana Turner's 14 year old daughter Cheryl heard shouting and screaming coming from Lana's bedroom, she witnessed Stompanato savagely beating her mother. Grabbing a carving knife from the kitchen Cheryl fatally stabbed Stompanato, it was ruled as justifiable homicide, she was protecting her mother. The case became a media sensation.

One of Hollywood's most famous and most beautiful actresses, Lana Turner has starred in 40 movies this hub showcases poster art from 22 of them.

Big-budget MGM horror movie based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", first published in 1886.

Critics complained that Spencer Tracy wasn't frightening as Mr. Hyde and the film was not a success at the box office. But there is still much to enjoy and admire in the movie and it is this writer's favourite of the various Dr. Jekyll film adaptations.

Robert Donat was one of the actors considered for the lead role.
