That is from one of my very favorite movies. If you like any other Nicholas Ray movies (and he made some great ones) then you are sure to like this one!

Another great RKO daybill design. Interestingly the rating is shown as Only Suitable For Adults and not the normal Suitable Only For Adults. A rarity Reggie.

Intersting Lawerence, why would one be phrased one way, and not the other?

My guess and it is only a guess is that the printers Simmons made a mistake in originally printing Suitable For Adults on the poster leaving Only off. I'm thinking when the mistake was picked up as there was still room within the circle for the word Only and was was added to the poster as it still made sense. Note the world is in slightly darker lettering perhaps backing up my thoughts that is was printed on the poster at a later time.
The movie They Live by Night aka The Twisted Road appears to have had a long run in this country, or perhaps more to the point took a long time to get around Australia - opening in 1948 it was still being shown in 1952
The only time that I found 'Only' preceded Suitable for Adults as a censorship notice for this movie appeared to be only in advert(s) in South Australia in 1952. South Australia was rejigging its censorship ratings in the late 1940s so there may have been some mixed messages getting through to the printers for this film for the poster for SA.
FYI - the movie was rescreened in 1979 at the National Library (Canberra) as They Live By Night with a NRC rating.
I could only locate two Australian newspaper classifieds for The Twisted Road that show the full censorship classification and this being Suitable Only For Adults for screenings in Queensland in 1949 and in Victoria in 1950. All other classifieds I found for this film were smaller in size with only ( A ) appearing on them.
