It appears maybe he didn't reach his longtime goal to own a baseball team. I cannot find any proof that he did, If this was the case the following is possibly why.

''I must have gone through $10 million during my career. Part of the loot went for gambling, part on horses and part for women. The rest I spent foolishly''.( IMDB trivia )

  • He turned down starring roles in The Maltese Falcon and High Sierra plus some other big titles. His career might have been very different if he had shown better judgement!
  • Despite all his problems with loosing his money and some prize film rolls I like what George Raft had to say about his life, which was printed in the George Raft Profile on the TCM website and is as follows.

''In 1978, he was asked what changes he would make if he could live his life over again.Raft replied ''None. Given a second chance, I'd devil it  I'd do it all exactly the same, except I'd do it twice as hard and twice as good. The World and life has been very kind to me and I have no complaints''.

  • I am sure the Mob took care of him of well...
  • During the 1950s George Raft was reduced to working as a greeter at the Capri Casino in Mob dominated Havana, Cuba, where he was part owner. You need to make up your own mind though as to if the Capri had links with the mafia or not.
