From Russia With Love lobby card

Here's a bit of an anomaly. I have a From Russia With Love lobby card No.4. However, when I checked emovieposter and heritage for its previous sales the card with the same image is listed as No.3. Here is the card from Bruce's site. I have no reason to believe mine is fake (I got it with some Goldfinger cards and other genuine posters). It's printed in USA, but maybe part of an international set?

  • Could be a re-release card??
  • Rick, this happened quite a bit. There are at least ten examples I have encountered, where there are more than one example of the same scene, but with different numbers.

I would bet this was because they were not all printed in the same place. This is especially true with very popular movies. We have found one-sheets with slight variations in the text on the bottom, and that seems to be the same as what you are talking about.

Of course, maybe one set was printed first, and then they ran out, and more sets were printed, and the numbering was changed (likely accidentally) but even if that were the case, no one will ever know which came first.

It is just one of those interesting oddities!

Logic to me suggest a second printing location rather than a second print run from the same location. Surely the plates will be the same ones at the same location for a re-print.
  • You misunderstand. I meant there could be a time delay between printings of months, or even a year or more, in which case one would be "first". But we will never know that even if it were true, so they should both be considered "first release".
