Are Toploaders A Good Idea For Posters?

edited November 2016 in Storage & Archival
Hi,

I've been thinking of buying a bunch of Japanese B5 (7x10) posters. Anyway I've been reading around here about using sleeves, but I just feel like they'd be too flimsy and would need taking care of. So I was wondering if the 9x12 or 8x10 toploaders offered by BCW and BagsUnlimited would do the trick. I believe they're sturdy enough and besides since the posters are so small I could just store them in a cardboard box if the need arises, but I thought I'd consult with professional collectors first before making any fatal errors.

Thanks.

  • I can't talk to toploaders per se, but I would imagine provided they are of archival grade they would more than do the job.

Mylar/Archival sleeves are surprisingly robust offering excellent protection and making it very easy to handle posters.
  • When it comes to sleeves though, do I need to buy backing for those as well?
  • Thank You so much.

Try both. Dependent on how you use/handle your collection then one will be more obviously the right choice for you
