Their Finest ) ( 2016 ) features Dunkirk in the storyline. Well worth seeking out.
  • Then there is this:

Why someone thought it was a good idea to re-make this is beyond me.

The idea of it now being a game show was interesting, cause with reality tv the way its going, who knows right...but other than that...terrible...terrible, but not on the same level as the terrible original.

The original 1982 Turkey Shoot, although I have never seen it, looks like it is more in your face.

  • Watched Escape from Alcatraz last night.

You still have to wonder if they did or didn't...

The original Turkey Shoot is bad too, but bad in a cheesy way.  It doesn't pretend to be anything other than it is, a cheesy gore film.  The remake takes itself far too seriously!

Managed to knock off two more Aussie films over the weekend.

I didn't know very much going in.  A kind of war movie which in parts I found really hard to watch - lots of skipping forward in those bits.  Firth was wonderful, and she annoyed the crap out of me as usual with that friggen pouty face!

Dafoe was wonderful in this one.  Pretty much what I expected.  Great performances by the kids...for a change they didn't annoy me at all.

    Next up Satellite Boy...

    =)

That reviewer's gig for The Age is probably not open to you...
  • I'm old now.

No time for nicey nicey anymore...

  • Judy Garland.... :how_interesting:

    Family movie night....
  • Wow!

    Were not in Kansas anymore....
  • Prime Suspect 1973 a new series from the U.K. Watched the first episode and this is top notch viewing.

  • Wonderful coming of age story...as usual Gulpilil is wonderful.

Highly recommend along with Ten Canoes if anyone is interested in Indigenous Australian cinema.

  • You are on a role!

Y'all need to see Dunkirk in 70mm!

War is hell and you are there, being bombed on the beach, drowning as your ship sinks like a rock, dogfighting with the ace Nazi pilots, etc.

Took  a pic of all the intense action, do note the tiny peeps at bottom....

  • Other half is sick so took the opportunity to watch a couple he would have no interest in last night:

Enjoyed it very much...Dennis Price was delightful!

Loved the end :)  Ladykillers still my favourite Ealing to date though...

    Then this:

70s Ozploitation...exactly what I expected but still struggled to get through it, it was that bad, but another aussie I can cross off the list.

    Was on the telly tonight.
Wonderful, enjoyed it immensely.  Winslet was superb, Judy Davis great as usual.
In afct I think they were all wonderfully cast.
    Highly recommended.
  • Uh oh....problem!

The wife wants to watch, Because I Said So with Diane Keaton & Mandy Moore after our dinner out tonight....I told her I was thinking along the lines of Where Eagles Dare or A Bridge To Far....

....not sure how this one's gonna play out....well....yes I do.... :|
  • Never heard of it...
  •  Viewed Dunkirk earlier today it is excellent and this poster is great.
  • After seeing Dunkirk at the cinema I watched a great new documentary titled Dunkirk The New Evidence, a programme I had recorded last Sunday night from SBS television. A fascinating look at the huge role the RAF and the Spitfire played in this engagement, that has been criticized in the past for not doing enough. One thing that stood out to me was that the number of allied troops shown in the documentary and the fierce fighting in the streets was downplayed in the new film. The Spitfire shown above crashed on the beach in 1940 but was restored to flying condition many years later, and now resides at the  Duxford airfield in the U.K.

  • One guess....

  • My podiatrist (plantar's) told me to watch Woman in Gold after I mentioned going to the Art Gallery of Onatrio.  And it was a damn good movie...

     http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2404425/
  • Wind River is excellent.

  • Woman in Gold on my list too!  She is fabulous!

Never heard of Wind River...need to google...

  • Alien Covenant (2017) - a few obvious twists - entertaining enough, you do have to have a passing knowledge of the previous Aliens specially Prometheus (2012).

Mainly shot in New Zealand with digital effects done in Australia.

  • Just saw The Wolf of Wall Street.  Yeah, I know its a few years old but anything with 'Wall Street' in the title (or descrip) doesn't interest me.
Laughed my arse off.  One of the most enjoyable films I have seen in many years.  DiCaprio got screwed out of the Oscar.
  • I agree!!!

  • So I'm very late to theGOT TV party!

I've read the 5 books 2-3 times and finally signed up for HBO online.

But I definitely did not enjoy watching the "grim and brutal" show. (I started with Season 6, which takes place after the books end.)

I'llwatch a couple more episodes to give it a chance....
  • Along with Star Wars add Game of Thrones as another thing I have no interest in watching...

Watched Stargate for the umpteenth time last night however.
  • Good man...
