Paper lifting off the linen

Howdy to our resto peeps!

Nah seriously,  I was going through some of my posters and came across one that had a crap backing and resto job, which is fine.

The linen was all uneven and in the corners, the paper backing was separating from the linen.

I've trimmed the linen as best I can do get rid of most of the separation, but in one corner the paper is still lifting from the linen.

Can I glue this down in any way to stop it from separating further, or am I best off trimming a bit more.  My borders are at 1 inch now after my initially trimming job to rescue the rest of the borders...

Any help, advice?

  • You could buy a lineco museum mounting kit fairly cheap which has a jar of wheat paste adhesive.  Mix it up and apply smalll amount to required area. Use blotting paper and weight to dry.

No dont trim more! Youll get to the border and scream!

  • Yeah I am not too keen to keep trimming, as I can see it just getting worse over time.

Not really worth getting rebacked but would like to enjoy it for a few years at least.

Will have to give the mounting kit solution a go I think...source in Aus you can point me to?

You can just get the wheat starch..blotting paper from deans arts....actually will pop some blotting paper in a tube if u know what i mean  =)

  • I found this the best consistency when i used the starch paate  for japanese hinges

    1 tsp powder
    6 tsp purified water

6 x 10 second zaps in microwave, stiring in between.

Then apply to paper and need to wait couple of.mins until almost dry , goes a translucent color..the blotting paper helps to absorb excess
  • The best is methyl cellulose - it's not as wet as wheat paste and less likely to warp the poster...
  • Thanks Charlie.  Will look into that too!
