  • hehe...nice of you Paul
  • Finally got my posters back (with help from the boys in blue), I can now see how the re-backed Fine Sound of Music Quad didn't quite turn out as well as he said it looked (post mashed potato removal by this leading pro).

The surface is now littered with evidence of tears and other damage which has been repaired with little care, well he did say that he bears no responsibility for it and he has of course carried out this work at no charge to me....  I am truely blessed!

I should be thanking him though as apparently it's an unwritten code that backers aren't responsible for any damage they cause and he was under no obligation to 'make right' if that's what you call it?  =)
  • Oh no.  That is crap.   But at least you have them back.  Hopefully he didn't ruin every poster!
  • Sheesh, what a hack!
  • Looks like a second release Sound of Music..  Who was the restorer, if I can use that word?

Let's just say that I won't be getting anything backed in NZ again Paul, it was actually a re-back after he rushed his first attempt and left a large pinched area in the linen.

This was the near minty beauty prior to my poor decision to have it backed locally. What a waste!

He'd backed a handful of daybill's to make up for it, but to be honest I don't think it was an adequate reparation, the drama's involved with him dragging his heals and inability to return any of my calls etc. was blatantly him giving me the run around and when I eventually had the cops point out the error of his ways he smugly implied that he hadn't heard from me and of course I can have all my property back if only I'd asked!! Bloody fool.

I had asked over the last six months for images of his working space/studio, like his verbal guarantees on his work, nothing was ever put to paper so to speak and I'm assuming from the mass of dirt, hairs and other wind blown debris that was rolled within my returned posters that his working environment leaves a lot to be desired!
  • Good to hear you got your 35 posters back, Wil!    As for The Sound Of Music....I thought you gave him that poster to reback-not he botched the first attempt at backing and had to reback it.

? DId he show you a photo of the "large pinched area in the linen" that requir d it to be re-linenbacked? If the canvas is stretched tight there's no way that should happen? Sounds like  a lot of unreliable things happening there. Images of Sound/Music indicate this for sure.
  • My condolences Collectaholic.
Nobody (and no paper) should be treated that way.
  • Thanks Wil. I definitely won't be sending anything that way, I always send over the pond, the US has the best people at this game. It's a chew on I know, and a worry, but worth it when they arrive at the door...

I have a couple of others waiting to go at the moment, just trying to decide which restorer to use..

  • Winners are grinners..good result Wil

Agree David, only i'm not sure there are any winner here  :) But yes, good to finally see my stuff again after 5 months 'separation'.
  • Also just had FedEx knock on the door with my Tom Chantrell art. Crude to some, but always nice to finally own some original art from one of your all time favorite poster artists, albeit a first draft.

It's definitely better with the title overlay in place!  B)

  • Sweet artwork! :)

    Sweet artwork! :)

Thanks mate, it's actually pretty big and painted on thick board, his archivist says it was used to show his vision of the viewer adopting the bunker/German POV (as if they were the gunner) to the production company.

Obviously the clumbersom sight was ditched and you were given a couple of German sentries to 'stand between', but the bulk of it stayed true to this draft.

  • Nice indeed. It's a good 'un
  • Very nice!

....but @Wil. Isn't that the Quad that got mangled by the restorer?
