I can't find any recorded sales of this long daybills on emovieposter or Heritage. I guess the nicer one on the left is the original but not sure. any ideas?

  • The Little Colonel ( 1935 ) daybill on the left is definitely from the first release in Australia. You will notice on the bottom of the  poster just above the missing section the word Fox. This film was released in Australia in the first half of 1935 and on May 31 of that year 20th Century and Fox merged to form 20th Century Fox. The question with the poster on the right is whether this was just a second printing by the newly formed company sometime during the film's run or an official re-release of the film ? I couldn't find any US or Australian record of a re-release, so I would say a second printing.
  • My guess would be that the second one is a stock Shirley Temple daybill
  • It was nice to find these hidden in my UK quad file. I knew about the re-issue but didn't remember having the original.

On closer viewing I agree with Chris that the second poster is most likely a stock poster. The sailor suit image definitely from Captain January ( 1936 ) and most likely the overalls one from Rebecca Of Sunnybrook Fatm ( 1938 ). I  think that this is a stock poster circa 1938. When you look at the image of Shirley in the main image it would seem about right.
  • The way the title is printed on over top of the two images and the black block lettering style seem to be giveaways as to it being a stock poster

    Agree again.
  • thanks for all the info

  • A nice stock poster anyway and 20th Century Fox did an even better one for Carmen Miranda that was used for Down Argentina Way ( 1940 ).
  • Nice Temple images. Just too bad their on those little Daybills.... ;)
