Simmons RKO Full Bleed Daybill Posters Incorrecly Trimmed.

Three RKO full bleed daybill posters of Dumbo,The Window and It's A Wonderful Life ""  were previously discussed on my posted ''Dumbo original daybill at last'' thread. This subject deserves a separate thread. The following were either trimmed too much or not enough.

The Falcon's Adventure ( 1946 ) is yet another example of not getting the trimming process spot on.

If any other examples exist of not getting the trimming of RKO full bleed daybills correct by the printers Simmons Ltd. Litho Sydney please let us know ?

A reminder that on another forum tread titled RKO Daybills - Full Bleed, some history on the RKO full bleed  and non full bleed posters is available to check out.

  • You could probably also start a thread for Richardson Studio daybills that were badly trimmed at the time of printing. There are many examples and some people often make the mistake of thinking that the were trimmed at a later date. I don't think the printers cared too much about accuracy at the time.

I am not familiar with the badly trimmed Richardson studio daybills that you mentioned. As you are handling daybills continually, these things would be more familiar to you. I am very interested in learning more though, so perhaps you could start a new thread yourself and present us with your worse known example/s of this happening?
  • Yes we need more threads on the same subject.
  • Here's two others with irregular poster trimming. Along Came Jones has a portion of another poster along the left hand side. Journey into Fear has been trimmed to leave a sliver of a bottom border, in this case the printers' name is in the middle of the poster so that's weird.

For anyone interested, the poster printed alongside Along Came Jones was Back To Bataan ( 1945 ).

  • A different better trimmed version of Along Came Jones. It is hard to work the trimming process out for this film.
  • Impressive sleuthing Lawrence.

You're not wrong. Maybe a new quiz is in order where we show a 2mm slither of artwork and time how long it takes Lawrence to come up with the title.
  • I didnt understand Lawrence's achievement until i realised just then the slither ! Well done!

I have a lot of unsent drafts sitting in the drafts box. In the process of tidying up and deleting some of these, I accidently pressed the ''Post comment'' button and sent one completed draft off. I immediately realised this and then deleted it. Instead of just then typing in the word ''Deleted'' in the comment box I  had attempted to explain what had happened. Sorry my explanation apparently didn't make sense.
