New early Australian movie poster artist - Lawrence?

Hi All,

Recently saw a couple of one sheets from the 30s and 40s with the signature of poster artist Lawrence.
I've not come across this signature before.
Any one have any examples or details?

  • It's Hondo himself - it all comes full circle ;)
  • Ha!  Same thing crossed my mind!

I'll try and rack my brain with some details and get back to you. My memory, you should understand, isn't as good as it used to be. It has been a long long time since my heyday.

  • On the serious side now.

Some Lawrence signed Paramount Australian one sheets.

    Bahama Passage ( 1941 )
    The Great Man's Lady ( 1941 )
    Priorities On Parade ( 1942 )
    The Forest Rangers ( 1942 )
    Happy Go Lucky ( 1943 )
    Submarine Alert ( 1943 )
    Duffy's Tower ( 1945 )

One other earlier Paramount Australian one sheet which was signed as G. Lawrence  is -

    The Great Victor Herbert ( 1939 )

The  printer it appears for all of the posters was Offset Printing Co.Pty.Ltd.Sydney.

There is also an interesting daybill produced for the early 1970's re-release by House Of Dare of the 1939 film Gulliver's Travels. The original film was released by Paramount Pictures, and it certainly appears that some of the original artworld appears on the bottom of the Eric Dare daybill, which includes the word Lawrence amongst it..
