noggins... that a person's head in US speak.  Do you mean horizontal boards?  Yeah that is one thing that is good about how houses are built here, when I ran the new water pipes from the attic (3rd floor), I just ran them through the wall in my daughter's closet and then through the master bedroom closet.  No problem...

I put an additional 8" header above the wider spaced studs for structural overkill and cross members above and below the future shelving.... See the notches at the top of the studs.
  • Yup, horizontal studs. Usually two per gap.

lol. Yeah, that's a person's head here too.
  • When drilling holes through your studs, do you use what we call "spade bits"?
  • I have spade bits, but you can buy bits in the electrical section.  I have these two that I used...

  • They are auger bits, this is the new improved spade bit, I recommend it.

  • I don't have the ones with the screw as the point.  Just the paddle type...  They suck for trying to go through 3 inches of stud.  The auger and what they call an installer bit worked fast and you didn't run the chance of breaking your damn wrist like the paddle bits..

I just have a set and some singles of this type..

  • Arghhh yes. The new spade bit does the job of a auger bit without ripping your hand off if. It gets the job done with less effort. I'm sold on the fuckers. love'em. ;)
  • Well when I went to the hardware store, which carried Bosch, they didn't have them in the store...  Damn!  I can usually slip a tool in with the materials and the wife (although she knows) never complains...  I got a cool scraper tonight. Ha!

  • Have you ever bought a tool you've never used? Just because you say to yourself "I might need that one day"
  • Charlie will now be able to scratch the barnacles off a humpback whale with this fantastic tool

Never!  I bought a new ratchet the other day simply because I was board and it was shiny...

Still have not used it, but it will get used...  I have one but it's going on 10 or 12 years now and the switch is a hair trigger and gets annoying.
  • Us guy's are always talking about our Tools, and Bits....

I am going to white wash the pine bead board and paint the center panel along with some added appliques.

  • Now your cooking...
  • Lotta work done there, well done Charlie.
  • Your energy is admirable Charlie.
  • It's coming together now, can't wait to see the final product.
  • Got the rest of the ceiling up yesterday. Still have to finish the molding etc...
  • Quad outlets!! YES!!! Mighty fine, mighty fine.

Finishing off the ceiling. Just need to putty the nail sinks and some final touch-ups...  There is a center piece moulding left to install.  Then to the dreaded floor!

  • Looking good Charlie!
  • Looking good Charlie, I went for LED lighting in mine, saves a fortune in electric bills, cheap to buy also...
  • <<<UPDATE>>>

Ceiling all finished off - we added the recessed trims w/baffled the other day (not pictured)

    Decorative center piece...

4 hours of sanding with 6 grit double head rotary...  Still looked like shit.
    image

After leveling with so called "self leveling" cement.  It was not self leveling...
    image

I had to level this corner with mortar and an aluminum straight edge.  We had started applying the Ditra matting while it dried.

Ditra matting is all installed now. We are picking up the 12" x 24" slate tiles tomorrow. Stay Tuned!
  • Did you call in Harry Potter to make it flat for you....  I see his Nimbus2000.
  • Ditra matting, where did you get that from?

  • I now know why people pay to have someone else install tile. Stone as a material is a bitch. Each tile has a different thickness. Some are thicker on one side than the other. Some are thick only in the middle. We did half the floor, and are now exhausted... But, it's looking good!

  • Looks great Charlie!

Those plastic crosses are cute touch...
