Displaying Posters for Sale

Hi

Can anyone recommend materials and how to best display posters that will be sold at convention? I have seen backing with what looks like shrink wrap but wondering if anyone can recommend pre cut backings and if there is special wrap and how to best complete this setup? Thanks.

  • I'm not sure what you're referring to regarding backing but I've found museum-style presentations are best.  Generally,  it a simple black frame with acid-free matboard but it depends on what size poster you're trying to frame.

For the backing,  I mount the poster to foam board using clear archival mounting strips.  You can find them on Amazon.  The mat covers the mounting strip.  If you cut your mat correctly,  the only things you'll see are the matboard and your poster.

For the back of the frame,  I use craft paper to conceal the back of the foamboard and materials used to secure the foamboard to the frame.

While they're somewhat pricey (I make my own frames),  I'd have no problem using a frame from Spotlight Displays:  https://www.spotlightdisplays.com/

Robert will customize orders to ensure you get the exact fit.  Another nice feature is his frames snap open and close.  It's very easy to insert and/ or remove a poster.
  • For pre-cut backings of multiple sizes (stills and lobbies up to quad size) and different materials for different uses, check out the Bags Unlimited website. I'm not sure about special wrap, but if they don't list anything, you could certainly ask what they suggest.
  • Howdy!  I agree with Rockabilly, Bags Unlimited have several different bags/sleeves and backing boards for all size movie paper and pics.  Especially if you are looking for something that will house the item and can go with the item purchased for future protection.
